우리나라에는 국내에서 자생적(自生的)으로 생겨난 새 종교들이 있다. 1950년부터 1953년까지 민족 내전(6.25 전쟁)을 치르면서 남북으로 분단, 북한 출신들이 남한으로 내려와 개신교회를 번성시켰다. 서울의 영락교회 충현교회 등이 대표적인 교회이다.

평안북도 정주군 출신의 문선명 교주는 1954년에 통일교회(세계평화통일가정연합선교회)를 창시했다. 한국산 종교(korean religion)를 약자로 'K-종교'라 호칭할 수도 있다. 통일교의 문선명(1020-12012) 교주는 이 새 종교를 'K-종교'로 육성, 세계로 전파시켰고, 성공시켰다. 일본에만도 6만여 신도가 있다고 한다. 세계평화통일가정연합선교회(통일교)는 'K-종교'의 가능성이 무언지를 보여준 새 종교라 할 수 있다. 특히 일본에서 들어온 헌금을 이용, 종산(宗産) 복합체제를 만드는데 기여했다.

요즘 사회적으로 주목을 받고 있는 기독교복음선교회(세칭 JMS)의 정명석 목사도 한국산 새 종교(K-종교)의 설립자이다. 이 교단 역시 'K-종교'의 영역에 속한다. 세계 속에 선교, 외국인 신자들의 수가 날로 늘어나고 있다. 세계본부가 있는 충남 금산군 월명동에는 47만평에 달하는 자연교회가 개발돼 있다. 최근 필자가 출간한 “나는 정명석을 만나러 간다“는 저서가 교보문고 베스트셀러(에세이 부분 13위 차지)에 진입했다. JMS는 자체 내의 모순을 제거하는 기간을 거쳐, 정화가 된다면, 'K-종교'의 위력을 발휘하는 한국산 종교가 되리라고 예견한다.

재단법인 한국기독교 에덴성회(韓國基督敎-聖會)는 이영수 총회장이 1973년에 창교한 한국산 새종교이다. 경기도 가평군 청평면 상천리에 본부를 두고 있다. 100만 여 평에 자연교회를 만들었다. 자연교회가 웅대하다. 개신교단으로 성경의 내용을 종지로 하고 있다.
일본산 종교로 한국에 들어와 교세를 확장한 대표적인 종단으로 한국SGI가 있다. 이 종단의 홈페이지에는 “한국SGI는 불법(佛法)의 인간주의를 바탕으로 한 사람 한 사람의 행복한 생활을 추구하고 평화·문화·교육운동과 사회공헌 활동을 활발히 펼치고 있다”고 설명하고 “한국SGI는 불법(佛法)의 인간주의를 바탕으로 평화ㆍ문화ㆍ교육 운동을 펼치고 있다. SGI(Soka Gakkai International, 국제창가학회)는 니치렌 대성인(日蓮大聖人, 1222 ~ 1282)이 설한 불법(佛法)의 인간주의를 바탕으로 전 인류의 행복과 번영, 항구적인 세계평화 실현을 목표로 하는 대승불교단체이다. 1930년 창가학회가 설립되었으며 1975년 1월 26일 제2차 세계대전의 격전지였던 괌에서 세계 51개국의 창가학회 회원 대표가 모여 SGI가 발족된 후, 현재는 세계 192개국·지역에서 1200만여 명의 회원이 니치렌불법을 실천하며 각국의 번영과 평화를 위해 활동하고 있다”고 소개했다. 글로벌 사회는 치열한 경제 전쟁 사회이다. 종교도 그 한 가운데 끼어 있다. 한국 가톨릭은 교황청의 지배를 받고 있다. 외국에서 들어온 교단들은 종교생산국의 보호를 받게 마련이다.
한국에서 출범한 새 종교의 특성은 1950-1953년 민족 내전(6.25 전쟁)을 치른 때문인지 반공(反共=반 공산주의)을 지향하고 있는 공통점이 있다. 한국산 ‘K-종교’의 대표격인 통일교는 반공(反共)-승공(勝共)을 지향했다. 기독교의 교조(敎祖)인 예수는 십자가 형으로 사망했다. 개신교의 핵심교지(敎旨)는 ‘사랑’이다. 한국산 기독교계 새 종교들은, 그 어떤 교단이든지 ‘예수의 사랑 정신’을 내세운다. 새로 오는 예수, 즉 메시아의 재림을 대망(待望)한다. 한반도 내란-베트남 참전 등 전쟁을 경험한 한국산 교주들은, 인간의 처참한 죽음을 바라본 교주들은, 대부분이 평화(平和)를 소망한다. 그리고 이를 해결할 메시아이즘을 지향한다. 힘이 있는 지도자의 출현(出現)을 갈망한다. 이는 통일교, 신천지, JMS 등 신흥교단의 공통점이다. 이런 ‘K-종교’가 국제 사회로 수출되는 게, 나쁠 게 있을까? 우리나라는 불교, 가톨릭, 개신교 등을 해외에서 받아들여 종교 백화점의 국가가 됐다. 가톨릭에 바쳐진 막대한 주일헌금이 해외로 유출된다. 이게 사실이다. 이제는 그 반대로 ‘K-종교’를 해외로 수출, 국가 부강에 기여할 때임을 지적한다.
