브레이크뉴스 문홍철 기자= 현대자동차그룹이 영국 런던대학교 School of Oriental and African Studies(SOAS)와 아프리카 시장 성장 전략 수립 등을 전문적으로 연구하는 두 곳의 연구센터를 설립한다.
현대차그룹과 영국 런던대학교 SOAS는 18일(현지시간) 런던대브루나이 갤러리 극장에서 ‘개발 리더십 대화의 장 연구소’(Development Leadership Dialogue Institute, DLD) 개소식 행사를 열었다.
런던대학교 SOAS는 런던대학교를 구성하는 17개의 단과대학 가운데 하나다. 개발도상국 지역, 아시아와 아프리카 지역에 특화한 연구를 진행하고 있는 공립 대학이다.
이날 개소식에는 현대차그룹 경영연구원장 김견 부사장을 비롯해 GSO(Global Strategy Office) 본부장 김흥수 부사장, 현대차 UK 법인장 애슐리 앤드류 상무, 기아 UK 법인장 폴 필팟 상무와, 런던대학교 SOAS 아담 하빕 총장, 로라 해몬드 부총장, 엘리사 반 와이언버그 경상대 학장, 장하준 교수, 크리스토퍼 크레이머 교수, 조나단 디 존 교수, 안토니오 안드레오니 교수 등 학교 관계자가 참석했다.
DLD는 앞으로 런던대학교 소속 장하준 교수, 크리스토퍼 크레이머 교수, 조나단 디 존 교수 세 명이 공동으로 운영한다. 아프리카는 2035년까지 인구가 약 17억 명에 달할 것으로 예상되는 풍부한 시장 잠재력을 가진 지역이다.
현대차그룹은 런던대학교 SOAS와 함께 2024년 2월 지속가능한 구조변화 연구소 (Centre for Sustainable Structural Transformation, CSST)를 추가로 설립할 예정이다.
현대차그룹은 이번 런던대학교 SOAS 산하 DLD및 CSST 연구소와의 협업을 바탕으로 아프리카 시장에 대한 근본적인 이해를 높이고 바람직한 아프리카의 미래성장에 대한 연구를 진행할 계획이다. 단순히 차량 판매 확대 전략을 넘어 아프리카 국가들과 상생 협력할 수 있는 방안을 제시하겠다는 목표다.
현대차그룹이 보유한 기술력을 바탕으로 아프리카의 산업 발전 방안을 고민하고, 그 과정에서 아프리카의 자원개발, 신재생에너지 개발협력에 나서는 등 아프리카의 각 국가들과 협력 관계를 구축해 나갈 예정이다.
DLD는 정부, 기업, 민간 전문가들이 학제간 논의와 정기적인 토론, 워크샵, 세미나 등을 통해 아프리카를 비롯한 개발도상국 산업화 방안과 관련 정책을 토론하는 기관으로 활용된다. 또한 앞으로 정부, 기업 미래 지도자를 대상으로 지도자 프로그램을 운영하며, 개발도상국 미래 리더를 육성할 계획이다.
2024년 2월 설립 예정인 CSST 연구소는 △에너지 변환 △광물 자원 △국제 공급망의 재조직 △새로운 인프라의 건설 등 4개 과제를 중심으로 연구 과제를 수행한다. 이를 바탕으로 아프리카를 중심으로 지속가능한 구조변환에 기반한 개발도상국의 사회-경제 발전 방안을 제시하고, 현대차그룹을 비롯한 민간기업과 개발도상국 정부의 역할에 대한 구체적인 연구 및 비전을 제안할 예정이다.
현대차그룹 GSO(Global Strategy Office) 본부장 김흥수 부사장은 “현대차그룹은 아프리카 관련 리더, 전문가들과 바람직한 성장방향을 함께 고민할 것이다”며 “현대차그룹이 보유하고 있는 모빌리티, 에너지, 건설 등 다양한 분야의 선도적인 기술과 노하우를 활용해 아프리카 국가들과 장기적인 협력을 함께 하길 희망한다”고 전했다.
