영덕군에 따르면 발안란은 부화 직전 난막을 통해 눈이 보이게 되는 알을 일컫는데, 황금은어 발안란 방류 사업은 산란기가 도래한 자연산 황금은어를 포획해 알을 얻은 다음 수정된 발안란을 다시 하천으로 방류하는 사업이다.
매년 해당 사업을 통해 지역의 군어(郡魚)이자 임금님께 진상한 유례 깊은 특산물인 황금은어의 개체수를 유지하고 바다에서 돌아오는 회귀율을 높이는데 큰 성과를 거두고 있다.
올해는 알을 밴 약 1,000마리의 황금은어를 포획해 975만 개의발안란을 얻었으며, 이 중 100만 개의 알을 사업 기간 오십천 등지에 방류했다.
또한 방류 후 남은 알은 지품면에 있는 영덕 황금은어 양식장에서 부화·육성한 후 내년 3~5월 중 관내 주요 하천에 치어로 방류하고, 일부는 영덕황금은어축제에 사용할 계획이다.
김광열 영덕군수는 “황금은어가 갖는 문화적 상징과 생태학적 의미는 물론, 지역경제에 끼치는 긍정적인 영향까지 그 보존의 가치는 절대적인 당위성을 갖는다”며, “매년 은어 금어기인 4월~5월과 9월~10월 철저한 단속과 홍보를 시행하고 내수면 어도 개·보수를 통해 건강한 자연 산란장을 조성해 황금은어의 가치를 지켜갈 수 있도록 보존회와 함께 온 힘을 다하겠다”고 밝혔다.
