시티넷 사무국은 11월2일 자 보도자료에서 “김정기 시티넷 사무국 대표는 11월 7일 스페인의 바르셀로나에서 개최되는 세계스마트시티엑스포대회(Smart City Expo World Congress)에 참석하여 행사 주최인 바르셀로나 광역행정청(Barcelona Metropolitan Area(AMB) 프레지던트 겸 바르셀로나 시장을 만나 AMB의 시티넷 준회원 가입 및 MOU 체결을 할 예정”이라고 전했다.
이어 “바르셀로나에 본부를 둔 세계광역도시협의회(Metropolis, World Association of the Major Metropolise) 사무총장을 통해 유럽의 광역도시들이 시티넷 준회원 가입을 하도록 도움을 요청할 것”이라면서 “주 바르셀로나 한국 총영사와 주스페인 한국대사 면담을 통해 시티넷의 스페인 도시 회원 확장 계획을 설명할 것이다. 마드리드 시청 방문을 통해 준회원 가입 및 MOU 체결도 밀어부치려고 한다. 내친김에 포르투칼로 이동하여 브라가, 마톤신호스, 포르토, 리스본 시장과 면담할 예정”이라고 설명였다.
