브레이크뉴스 정민우 기자= KT는 초연결 지능형 연구개발망(KOREN)의 백본을 1Tbps로 고도화하고, 2024년 새해부터 KOREN을 이용하는 기관들에게 더 빠르고 안정적인 서비스를 제공한다고 19일 밝혔다.
KOREN은 미래 네트워크 선도 기술과 관련 장비를 연구·시험·검증할 수 있는 비영리 시험망으로, 한국지능정보사회진흥원(NIA)이 구축 및 운영을 주관한다.
KOREN 고도화 사업의 일환으로 진행된 1Tbps 백본망 구축을 통해 백본망 대역폭이 기존(100~400Gbps)보다 최대 10배 확대됐다.
특히, KT는 2020년 코위버의 광전송장비(ROADM)를 KOREN 백본망으로 구축해 4년간 고도화 사업을 진행해 왔고, 올해 11월에는 1Tbps 기술을 도입해 시스템당 30Tbps 전송 대역폭을 수용할 수 있는 4단계 고도화를 완료했다.
KT는 KOREN 백본망 고도화를 통해 국내외 산업체와 연구기관, 대학교에서 진행하는 챗GPT, 인공지능(AI), 빅데이터 및 클라우드 등 더 넓은 데이터 대역폭이 필요한 연구의 효율성을 높일 수 있을 것으로 기대하고 있다.
KT 손대호 통화/데이터제안/수행담당은 “1Tbps 백본망 고도화 구축은 국내에서 처음 상용화된 사례로 향후, 10배 빠른 10Tbps급 이상의 백본망으로 진화할 것으로 예상된다”며 “이를 계기로 KOREN 사업의 활성화와 차세대 네트워크 전송분야의 국내 통신 시장의 발전에 기여할 것으로 기대된다”고 말했다.
