브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 이재명 더불어민주당 대표는 21일 국회에서 열린 전략공천관리위원회 첫 회의를 주재하며 "내년 총선은 대한민국이 쌓아온 모든 성과들이 한꺼번에 무너질 수 있는 퇴행을 막는 중요한 일"이라고 말했다.
이재명 대표는 이 자리에서 "민생도 경제도 평화도 민주주의도 파괴될 위험 놓여있다. 실제로 엄청난 퇴행을 겪고 있는 게 현실이다"라며 이같이 밝혔다.
그는 "총선 같은 정치적으로 큰 이벤트를 할 때는 누가 더 잘할 수 있는지, 누가 더 나은 세상 만들 수 있는지를 경쟁하게 된다. 그게 바람직하다"면서 "민주당은 좋은 정책을 발굴해서 미래로 가기 위한 좋은 길을 제시하겠지만 과거로의 퇴행을 막는 것도 좋은 방책일 수 있다. 좋은 정책을 만드는 데 더해서 좋은 인물을 어떻게 배치할 건가도 매우 중요한 전략적 과제란 생각이 든다"고 강조했다.
이재명 대표는 특히 현 정부에 대한 비판의 날을 세웠다. 그는 "현 정부 여당은 너무 무능하고, 무책임하고 또 한편으로 폭력적이고 무도하기까지 하다"면서 "민생을 포함한 경제 문제에 관심이나 있는지 의심스러울 정도고, 안보도 과연 진지하게 국민과 국가 미래를 위해서 접근하고 있는지 의문이 들 정도"라고 맹비판했다.
또한 "수많은 사람들의 피와 생명을 바쳐서 이룬 민주주의도 파괴 위험에 노출돼 있다"며 "자나 깨나 아무 때나 여기 저기서 압수수색이 벌어진다. 세상에 대통령 명예훼손 사건을 갖고 대규모 수사단을 꾸리고 압수수색을 남발하는 건 아마 역사상 없던 일일 것"이라고 꼬집었다.

아울러 이날 회의에 참석한 안규백 전략공관위원장은 "전략공관위는 적재적소보다는 적소에 적재 인물을 배치함으로써 정권 폭주를 맞서 국민을 지키는 총선으로 만들 것"이라며 "가장 중요한 기준은 선거에서 승리할 수 있는 후보를 내는 것"이라고 강조했다.
일각에서 제기되는 친이재명계 인사를 비이재명계 인사의 지역구에 공천하는 '자객공천' 의혹에 대해서도 강하게 부인했다. 안규백 위원장은 "얼마나 못난 사람들이 당내 같은인사 지역구에 자객공천을 하겠나"라며 "그런 건 생각조차 하고 있지 않다"고 답했다.
안 위원장은 이날 회의 직후 기자들과 만난 자리에서 '전략공천 선거구 선정 방침'에 대해 "253개 선거구 중 20% 이내인 52개 시도당이 대상"이라며 "평가위와 검증위 심사 결과에 따라 공천 대상을 정하고 현역의원 불출마 선거구, 분구 예상 선거구, 본선 경쟁력이 현저히 낮은 선거구, 직전 선거에서 패배한 선거구, 공관위에서 상당한 판단이 있다는 근거가 있는 선거구를 전략지역구로 삼겠다"고 설명했다.
한편, 민주당은 지난 21대 총선에선 48곳을 전략지역구로 지정해 31곳에선 단수후보 공천, 17곳에선 경선을 실시했다.
