다가오는 새해인 2024년 청룡(靑龍)의 해이다. 서양에서 용(龍)은 악(惡)의 화신이다. 교훈적 의미는 끊임없이 경계하고 싸워 이겨 인간사회의 안정과 번영을 위해 단결 통합하라는 의미다. 이른바 피 흘림 없이 평화가 없으니, 생사를 건 용(龍=惡)과의 싸움은 인간의 숙명이요 의무란 뜻이다. 종교적으론 원죄(原罪)와 속죄(贖罪)에 대한 신의 징벌이다. 또한, 죄 사함을 받기 위해 용을 없애 끊임없이 번제(燔祭)를 올려야 하는 시지프스적 삶을 요구하는 시련이자 선물이다.
동양에서 용은 황제나 왕을 상징한다. 법과 제도가 왕명(王命)에 의해 제정되면 신민(臣民)은 충(忠)으로써 따르는 것이 도리다. 이를 어기면 참수(斬首) 낙향, 좌천 등의 가혹한 형벌을 받았다. 왕명을 거스르면 이른바 천벌을 받는데 삼족(三族)의 멸문지화를 피하지 못했다. 우리도 군부 통치 기간에 발본색원(拔本塞源)이라 하여 연좌제의 지평을 가족을 넘어 지인까지 처벌하는 공포정치로 국민을 겁박했다.
