포항시, 교육발전특구 시범지역 지정에 머리 맞댔다

【브레이크뉴스 포항】박희경 기자=포항시는 11일 교육발전특구 시범지역 지정을 위해 포항교육지원청, 지역대학 및 고등학교, 지역 기업, 지역 교육단체 등과 실무협의체 회의를 개최했다.

교육발전특구는 지역의 교육주체 간 긴밀하게 협력해 지방에서도 양질의 교육을 받을 수 있게 지역교육을 혁신하고 지역인재 양성에서부터 지역 정주까지 지속가능한 교육 생태계를 조성하는 것을 목적으로 한다.

교육발전특구 시범지역 지정 신청 지역은 교육발전특구위원회의 검토와 지방시대위원회의 심의·의결을 거쳐 교육부 장관이 지정하게 되며, 선정된 지역은 3년간 최대 30억 원에서 100억 원의 특별교부금과 지역 맞춤형 특례를 지원받게 된다.

지난해 3월 구성된 교육발전특구 실무협의체는 지속적인 회의를 개최하며 포항형 교육모델 발굴을 위한 다양한 의견을 수렴해 오고 있다.

이날 회의에서는 포항형 교육발전특구 추진 방향에 대한 의견을 수렴하고, 기관 간 협력체계를 구축해 지역교육 활성화와 교육모델 발굴에 적극 힘을 모으기로 했다.

포항시와 포항교육지원청은 실무진으로 구성된 교육발전특구 TF팀을 구성·운영하는 한편 포항형 교육발전특구 정책안 마련을 위해 교육발전특구 지정 연구용역 추진 및 포항시민 대상 교육발전특구 추진 방향 설문조사를 시행해 포항만의 특화된 교육모델 발굴을 위한 체계적인 절차를 추진 중에 있다.

이강덕 시장은 “교육발전특구는 인재가 모이는 활기찬 지역을 조성해 지역 공교육을 발전시키고 지방시대를 구현하는 사업”이라며 “유아에서부터 초·중등, 대학까지 지방에서도 양질의 교육을 받을 수 있도록 해 머무르고 싶은 포항을 만들겠다”고 말했다.
