브레이크뉴스 정민우 기자= 이재용 삼성전자 회장은 16일 사상 최대 실적을 낸 삼성바이오로직스 인천사업장을 찾아 더 높은 목표를 향해 한계를 돌파하자고 강조했다.
삼성바이오로직스는 2023년 연결 기준 연간 최대 △매출 3조7000억원 △영업이익 1조1000억원 △수주 3조5000억원의 성과를 달성했다.
자회사 삼성바이오에피스도 △자가면역질환 △항암제 △혈액질환 △안과질환 치료제 등의 판매 허가를 획득해 창립 12년만에 매출 1조원을 돌파하는 등 최대 실적에 기여했다.
이 회장은 내년 완공을 목표로 건설하고 있는 5공장 현장과 현재 본격 가동중인 4공장 생산라인을 점검한 뒤, 삼성바이오로직스 경영진으로부터 기술 개발 로드맵, 중장기 사업전략 등을 보고받았다.
이 회장은 “현재 성과에 만족하지 말고, 더 과감하게 도전하자. 더 높은 목표를 향해 미래로 나아가자”고 말했다.
삼성은 2010년 바이오를 미래 신수종 사업으로 선정한 뒤 2011년 삼성바이오로직스를 설립해 바이오의약품 위탁개발생산 사업을 본격적으로 시작했다.
2016년 상장 당시 3000억원 수준에 불과했던 연간 매출은 7년만에 약 3조7000억원으로 12배 성장했고, 공격적인 투자를 지속해 2022년 생산 능력 세계 1위를 달성했다.
삼성바이오로직스는 △5공장 건설 △ADC(Antibody-drug conjugate, 항체-약물 접합체) 경쟁력 확보 △투자 펀드 운영 등을 통해 미래준비에 박차를 가하고 있다.
글로벌 TOP 20 제약업체 중 14개 기업을 고객사로 둔 삼성바이오로직스는 급증하는 고객 수요에 차질없이 대응하고 생산능력 초격차를 확보하기 위해 5공장을 건설하고 있다. 5공장의 생산능력은 18만리터로, 내년 4월부터 가동할 예정이다.
올해는 ADC 개발에 본격 착수하는 등 사업 다각화에 나설 계획이다. ADC는 항체에 암세포를 죽이는 약물을 붙여 다른 세포의 피해를 최소화하면서 암세포만 제거하는 차세대 항암 기술이다.
바이오 업계는 2022년 8조원 규모였던 ADC 시장이 2026년까지 17조원으로 대폭 성장할 것으로 전망하고 있다.
삼성바이오로직스는 ‘라이프사이언스펀드’를 조성해 미래 기술에 선제 투자하고, 국내 바이오 생태계 활성화에도 기여하고 있다.
라이프사이언스펀드는 △삼성물산 △삼성바이오로직스 △삼성바이오에피스가 조성한 2△400억원 규모의 펀드로, 유망한 바이오 기술 기업 지분 투자에 참여하고 있다.
특히, 작년에는 난치성 뇌 질환 분야 신약을 개발하는 국내 기업 ‘에임드바이오’에 지분을 투자했으며, 향후 다양한 분야에서 공동 연구를 진행하는 등 협력을 강화할 예정이다.
