국가안보실이 21일 올해 안에 미국과 국방상호조달협정(RDP-A) 체결을 추진한다고 밝혔다.
안보실은 이날 용산 대통령실에서 인성환 제2차장 주재로 '제4차 방산수출전략평가회의'를 개최한 가운데 정부 부처 및 각 방산기업 등이 참석해 'K-방산 도약' '방산수출 중장기 전략' '한국 기업 지원 방안' 등을 논의 후 이같이 전했다.
한·미 국방상호조달협정은 국방 부문 무역 장벽 완화 취지 협정으로 방위산업 분야 '자유무역협정(FTA)'으로 불린다. 안보실은 이를 통한 한국 기업들의 글로벌 방산 수출 확대에 대한 기대감을 표했다.
안보실은 "날로 심화하는 북한 안보 위협에 철저히 대응해온 국방역량·범정부 차원 제도 개선·수출 시장개척을 위한 기업의 오랜 노력이 더 큰 방산수출 성과를 창출하고 국가경제 성장에 실질 기여할 수 있도록 정부가 앞장서겠다"고 전했다.
또 향후 폴란드·루마니아·발트 3국(리투아니아·라트비아·에스토니아)·중동국가 등과 전략 소통을 강화하기로 했다.
더불어 우주·인공지능(AI)·유무인 복합체계 등 국방 첨단전략 분야를 집중 육성하는 한편 정부 금융 지원을 늘려 국내 방위산업을 수출 중심으로 재편한다는 방침을 세웠다.
이날 방산 기업들은 신속한 수출 허가·정책금융 지원 확대·국가별 고위급 면담 확대 등을 요청했다.
인 차장은 "방산 수출은 국가 간 전략적 협력 일환으로 정부·기업·군이 긴밀히 협력해야만 성과를 창출할 수 있는 분야"라고 전했다.
