브레이크뉴스 문홍철 기자= 현대자동차와 기아가 정부 및 학계와 손잡고 전기차 안전을 강화하기 위해 팔을 걷어붙였다.
현대차∙기아는 18일 서울시 서초구에 위치한 엘타워에서 현대차∙기아, 소방청(소방연구원), 한국자동차공학회 및 연구에 참여하는 5개 대학 관계자들이 참석한 가운데, ‘전기차 화재대응 소방기술 공동개발 협약’을 체결했다고 밝혔다.
이번 공동개발 협약 체결식에는 현대차∙기아 R&D본부장 양희원 사장, 전략기획실 김동욱 부사장, 배터리개발센터 센터장 김창환 전무 등 현대차그룹 관계자를 비롯해 남화영 소방청장, 김연상 국립소방연구원장, 전병욱 한국자동차공학회 회장 등이 참석했다.
공동개발 협약의 목표는 전기차 화재의 빠른 감지와 대응 능력 향상이다. 이를 위해 △원천 기술 개발 △현장 적용 기술 개발 △제도화 방안 연구 등 전방위적인 협력을 이어갈 예정이다.
원천 기술 개발 분과에서는 대학을 중심으로 전기차 특성에 대한 연구를 진행한다. 전기차 화재에 대한 거동 특성 연구(가천대, 중앙대, 소방연구원), 전기차 화재의 확산 예측 연구(한양대), 지하공간 전기차 화재 시 제연 및 배연 가이드라인에 대한 연구(서울과학기술대학) 등을 통해 데이터를 확보하고, 기술확보를 위한 기반을 다진다.
현장 적용 기술 개발 분과는 각종 소방 기술의 현장 적용을 목표로 한다. 지하주차장 상방향 주수 시스템 개발, 충전구역 소화설비 적용 방안 개발, 화재영상의 패턴인식 기반의 화재 특성 감지(소방연구원), 화재 신속 감지기술(홍익대)을 비롯해 소방대원 VR 훈련콘텐츠 개발(소방연구원) 등 현실에 적용 가능한 기술을 개발한다.
자동차공학회 주관으로 운영되는 제도화 방안 연구 분과에서는 전기차 화재진압 기술동향 및 효율적인 제도화 방안에 대한 연구를 통해 신속한 법제화로 안전을 높이는 기술이 확산될 수 있도록 돕는다.
현대차그룹은 전반적인 과제에 대한 관리와 더불어 각 연구과제가 실효성 있는 결과를 도출해낼 수 있도록 장비, 차량, 부품 등을 적극 지원함과 동시에 각종 실험을 함께할 방침이다.
현대차∙기아 R&D본부장 양희원 사장은 “개발된 소방기술 성과물들이 단순 기술개발에 그치지 않고, 소방∙건축 관련 법제화까지 추진하는 것을 최종 목표로 하고 있다”며 “이번 협력이 고객으로 하여금 전기차를 보다 더 안전하게 이용할 수 있는 마중물이 될 것으로 기대한다”고 말했다.
