윤석열 대통령이 20일 "대한민국은 세계 모든 민주주의 국가들과 함께 이번 정상회의 성과를 다져나가면서 세계 민주주의를 한 단계 성숙시키기 위한 노력을 계속하겠다"고 밝혔다.
윤 대통령은 이날 청와대 영빈관에서 화상 송출한 '제3차 민주주의 정상회의' 폐회사에서 이같이 말했다고 김수경 대통령실 대변인이 서면브리핑에서 전했다.
이번 회의는 '미래 세대를 위한 민주주의' 주제로 지난 18일부터 20일까지 사흘간 서울서 개최됐다. 조 바이든 미국 대통령 주도로 지난 2021년 시작된 이 회의가 미국 밖에서 단독 개최된 건 이번이 처음이다.
윤 대통령은 "세 번의 정상회의 개최로 세계 민주주의를 위한 우리 열망이 모두 충족됐다 말하긴 이르다"며 "세계 도처에선 여전히 권위주의·반지성주의가 고개들고 민주주의 가치·정신을 끊임없이 위협하고 있다"고 지적했다.
