대통령실이 8일 "정부는 (의대 증원) 1년 유예를 그간 검토한 바 없고 앞으로 검토할 계획도 없다"고 밝혔다.
대통령실 고위 관계자는 이날 오후 일부 매체를 통해 대한의사협회가 제안한 의대 2000명 증원 1년 유예안에 정부가 "내부 검토는 하겠다"는 보도가 나오자 이같이 적극 반박했다.
그러면서 의대 증원 규모 협의 가능성 관련해선 "2000명 증원 규모에 1년 이상 합리적 과학적 근거를 갖고 의료계와 수차례 협의를 거쳤다"며 "결정에 변함 없지만 만약 의료계서 이 부분에 조정 의견이 있거나 과학적 합리적이며 통일된 근거를 제시한다면 논의 가능성은 열어놓고 있고 열린 마음으로 임할 생각"이라고 기존 입장을 거듭했다.
