화림정사, 동국대 WISE캠퍼스에 장학기금 6천만원 기부

15일 동국대 WISE캠퍼스에 따르면 이날 전달된 기부금은 화림정사의 故 불곡당 신철 대종사님께서 남긴 것이다.

스님께서는 평소 근검절약하며 모으신 소중한 정재 3억 원을 입적하시기 전 지난해 6월에 WISE캠퍼스에 기부하셨고, 입적하신 후에는 도반이신 금용사 회주 혜선스님께서 모든 뒷정리를 하신 후 생전에 남아 있던 소중한 정재 전액을 동국대학교 WISE캠퍼스에 장학기금으로 기부했다.

신철 대종사의 뜻을 대신 전달한 혜선스님은 “스님께서는 평소 근검절약하시고 인재 양성의 중요성을 항상 말씀하셨다.”라며 “신철 스님의 생전 남아 있던 모든 정재를 기부하게 되었다.”라고 소감을 전했다.

류완하 동국대학교 WISE캠퍼스 총장은 “앞선 기부에 이어 소중한 정재를 기탁 해주신 것에 너무나도 감사드립니다.”며 “스님의 깊은 뜻을 받들어 유능한 인재 양성에 힘쓰겠다.”라고 말했다.

동국대 WISE캠퍼스는 지난해 6월 故 불곡당 신철 대종사께서 3억 원을 기부하며 신철장학회를 설립했으며 이후 37명의 학생을 선정해 장학금을 수여했고, 앞으로도 우수한 학생을 추가로 더 선발할 예정이다.
