윤석열 대통령이 3일 어버이날에 앞서 "노후 소득을 지원하는 기초연금을 임기 내 40만원까지 인상하는 게 목표"라고 밝혔다.
윤 대통령은 이날 오전 서울 장충체육관에서 열린 '제52회 어버이날 기념식'에 참석해 축사에서 '효도하는 정부'가 되겠다며 이같이 약속했다. 현직 대통령의 어버이날 기념행사 참석은 이번이 처음이다.
윤 대통령은 "행복한 노후를 위해 더욱 세심한 정책을 펼치겠다"며 "어르신 일자리를 계속 늘리는 한편 보수도 더 높여 가겠다"고 밝혔다.
그러면서 "어르신을 위한 맞춤형 주택·건강을 지켜드리는 시설·정책도 계속 확대해 나갈 것"이라며 "간병비 지원으로 부담을 덜어드리고 꼭 필요한 의료·요양·돌봄서비스 통합지원 체계를 구축하겠다"고 밝혔다.
또 "부모님들 삶이야말로 헌신의 역사 그 자체"라며 "가난하고 어려웠던 시절 태어나 젊은 날 여유 한 번 누릴 틈 없이 일하며 가족 돌보느라 하루하루를 바쁘게 사셨다"고 말했다.
이어 영화 '국제시장'을 언급하며 "부모님들 헌신·노력이 모여 세계서 가장 가난했던 나라 대한민국이 불과 70년 만에 세계적 경제 대국·문화 강국으로 우뚝 설 수 있었다"며 "부모님 세대의 무한한 희생이 지금도 계속되고 있는데 사회가 급속히 발전하며 고마움을 잊고 사는 건 아닌지 종종 생각하게 된다"고 말했다.

세 분은 목포 공생복지재단 공생원 2대 원장으로 3대째 고아 3000명을 보살피는 윤기 어르신(82)과 15년간 폐지를 모아 마련한 전 재산 5000만원을 기부한 최동복 어르신(87), 대한적십자 봉사 시간 4만여 시간을 기록한 우영순 어르신(76) 등이다.
김호일 대한노인회장은 환영사에서 "1984년 지하철을 100% 무임으로 하다 보니 노인 대부분이 밖으로 나가 걸음 걸으며 건강에 효과를 봤다"며 "지방도시는 지하철이 없는데 모든 국민이 버스를 무료로 탈 수 있는 교통수단 무임시대를 대통령이 열어주면 온 국민이 건강을 회복해 존경받는 대통령이 될 것"이라고 말했다.
