김해시는 16일 김해시청에서 국립김해박물관, 튀르키예 초룸시, 튀르키예 문화관광부와 특별전‘히타이트’의 성공적인 개최를 위한 업무협약을 체결했다.
히타이트 유물의 국내 전시는 이번이 처음이다.
이번 협약은 특별전 ‘히타이트’의 체계적인 준비와 진행을 위한 것으로 특별히 초룸시 하릴 이브라힘 아쉬근 시장과 튀르키예 문화관광부 문화유산박물관실장이 참석했다.
특별전 ‘히타이트’는 김해 3대 메가이벤트체전, 김해방문의해, 동아시아문화도시)와 가야고분군 유네스코 등재 1주년을 기념해 오는 2024년 10월 8일부터 2025년 2월 2일까지 국립김해박물관에서 개최된다.
히타이트는 약 3700년 전 아나톨리아 고원에서 번영했으며 인류 최초로 철기를 사용한 문명으로 알려져 있다.
전시에서는 히타이트가 강대국으로 거듭날 수 있었던 무기와 금속 제작기술을 보여주는 히타이트 수도 하투샤 출토 청동검, 갑옷 등 229점을 국내 최초로 선보인다.
이번 전시는 한국과 튀르키예 지자체가 중심이 된 국내 첫 전시라는 점에서 의미가 크다.

홍태용 시장은 “이번 특별전은 튀르키예 초룸시와의 우정을 여실히 보여주며 한국-튀르키예 양국 간의 문화교류를 한층 더 긴밀하게 하는 동시에 김해시의 국제적 위상을 높인다는 데 의의가 있다”고 말했다.
이에 하릴 이브라힘 아쉬근 초룸시장은 “김해시와 공동특별전을 개최하게 되어 더없이 기쁘고 공동특별전의 성공 개최를 위해 지원을 아끼지 않겠다”고 화답했다.
한편 이날 히타이트 특별전 업무협약식과 함께 양 도시 대표 대학인 인제대학교와 히타이트대학교 간의 업무협약식도 개최되어 글로벌 인재 양성, 대학간 학생 및 교직원 교류, 외국인 유학생 유치 등에 힘을 보탤 예정이다.
히타이트대는 초룸시에 있는 주립대학으로 1만8,000여명의 학부·대학원생이 재학 중이다.
