윤석열 대통령이 24일 "한반도를 둘러싼 안보 상황이 엄중하므로 안보 태세에 만전을 기하라"고 당부했다고 대통령실이 전했다.
윤 대통령은 이날 오전 수석비서관회의를 주재하면서 참모진에 이같이 당부했다고 이도운 대통령실 홍보수석이 오후 서면브리핑에서 전했다.
이 수석은 또 "이는 북·러 조약·중동 사태 등이 미칠 군사·경제안보에 관해 확고한 대비 태세를 유지하란 뜻"이라고 전했다.
윤 대통령이 북·러 군사밀착 관련 메시지를 내놓은 건 지난 19일 북·러 간 유사시 상호 군사지원을 골자로 하는 조약 체결 후 처음이다.
북·러가 군사 협력을 대폭 강화하면서 한반도 정세가 엄중해진 상황인 가운데 윤 대통령이 직접 메시지를 내 정부의 명확한 입장을 거듭 밝힌 차원으로 보인다.
하지만 윤 대통령이 북·러 조약을 직접 언급하진 않은 가운데 러시아를 필요 이상 자극해 안보 불안이 더 악화되는 상황을 경계한 차원일 수 있다.
대통령실은 북·러 간 군사협력 대응 차원에서 미국·일본·국제사회 등과 공조를 강화한다는 방침이다.
이날 한·미·일 3국 외교당국은 공동성명에서 "한·미·일은 북한에서 러시아로의 지속적 무기 이전을 포함 북·러 간 군사 협력 심화를 가장 강력한 용어로 규탄한다"고 밝혔다.
