브레이크뉴스 정민우 기자= 최태원 SK그룹 회장이 5일 SK하이닉스 HBM 생산 현장을 찾아 AI 반도체 현안을 직접 챙겼다.
최 회장은 이날 SK하이닉스 본사인 이천캠퍼스를 찾아 SK하이닉스 곽노정 대표 등 주요 경영진과 함께 고대역폭메모리(HBM) 생산 라인을 둘러보고, AI 메모리 분야 사업 현황을 점검했다.
이번에 최 회장이 살펴본 HBM 생산 라인은 최첨단 후공정 설비가 구축된 생산 시설로, SK하이닉스는 이 곳에서 지난 3월부터 업계 최고 성능의 AI용 메모리인 5세대 HBM(HBM3E) 8단 제품을 양산하고 있다.
SK하이닉스는 AI 메모리 리더십을 공고히 하기 위해 차세대 HBM 상용화 준비에도 박차를 가하고 있다. SK하이닉스는 HBM3E 12단 제품을 올해 3분기 양산해 4분기부터 고객에게 공급할 계획이며, 6세대 HBM(HBM4)은 내년 하반기 양산을 목표로 개발에 매진하고 있다.
최 회장은 HBM 생산 라인을 점검한 뒤 곽노정 대표와 송현종 사장, 김주선 사장 등 SK하이닉스 주요 경영진과 함께 AI 시대 D램, 낸드 기술/제품 리더십과 포스트(Post) HBM을 이끌어 나갈 미래 사업 경쟁력 강화 방안에 대해 장시간 논의를 진행했다.
최 회장은 최근 글로벌 주식 시장 변동성으로 제기되는 AI 거품론에 대해 “AI는 거스를 수 없는 대세이고 위기에서 기회를 포착한 기업만이 살아남아 기술을 선도할 수 있다”며 “어려울 때 일수록 흔들림 없이 기술경쟁력 확보에 매진하고 차세대 제품에 대해 치열하게 고민해야 한다”고 당부했다.
이어 “최근 해외 빅테크들이 SK하이닉스의 HBM 기술 리더십에 많은 관심을 보이고 있다”며 "이는 3만2000명 SK하이닉스 구성원들의 끊임없는 도전과 노력의 성과인 동시에 우리 스스로에 대한 믿음 덕분이라고 생각한다. 묵묵히 그 믿음을 더욱 두텁게 가져가자”고 격려했다.

최 회장은 올 1월 4일 SK하이닉스 이천캠퍼스 현장 경영에 나선 이후, 글로벌 빅테크 CEO들과의 연쇄 회동 등을 통해 AI 반도체 리더십 강화 및 글로벌 협력 네트워크 구축을 위해 직접 뛰고 있다.
최 회장은 지난 4월 미국 앤비디아 본사에서 젠슨 황 엔비디아 CEO를 만나 글로벌 AI 동맹 구축 방안을, 6월에는 대만을 찾아 웨이저자 TSMC 회장과 양사간 협력 방안을 논의했다. 이어 지난 6월 말부터 약 2주간 미국에 머물며 오픈AI, 마이크로소프트(MS), 아마존, 인텔 등 美 주요 빅테크 CEO와 연이어 회동하며, SK와 AI 및 반도체 파트너십을 공고히 하기 위한 방안을 논의했다.
이 외에도 최 회장은 지난 7월 대한상의 제주포럼에서 국내 주요 AI 분야 리더들과 만나 AI 시대의 미래 전략을 논의하는 등 국가 차원의 AI 리더십 강화를 위해 다양한 노력을 기울이고 있다. 앞서 지난 6월 그룹 경영전략회의에서 최 회장은 그룹 차원의 AI 성장 전략을 주문한 바 있다.
