세종시교육청은 8월 30일부터 9월 1일까지 2박 3일간 세종지역 고등학생과 교원 총 43명을 대상으로 '2024학년도 체험과 참여 중심의 독도.울릉도 탐방'을 실시했다고 밝혔다.
시교육청에 따르면 이번 독도·울릉도 탐방은 고등학생과 교원들이 우리 땅 독도를 직접 보고 느끼며, 대한민국 해양영토의 중요성을 직접 경험할 기회를 제공하기 위해 마련됐다.
앞서 시교육청은 지난 6월 참가 신청을 받았으며 평소 우리 땅 독도에 관한 관심과 꾸준한 독도 교육 활동 참여 여부 등을 기준으로 15개 학교의 대상자 43명을 최종 선정했다.
이번 탐방은 독도·울릉도의 역사, 인물, 생태를 골고루 둘러볼 수 있는 프로그램으로 구성했다.
특히,현재 독도의 날 '대한제국 칙령 제41호' 를 반포하는 데 중요한 역할을 한 울릉도 검찰사 이규원이 당시에 울릉도를 조사했던 장소를 중심으로 학생과 교원들이 방문이 이루어졌다.
첫째 날 탐방은 안전교육을 받은 학생과 교원들은 경북 울진 후포항을 거쳐 울릉도에 도착해 통구미, 태하 대풍감, 예림원 등 울릉도의 역사와 생태를 체험했다.
둘째 날은 학생과 교원들은 유람선을 타고 울릉도의 해안 생태를 구석구석 돌아본 후 독도박물관, 안용복기념관, 독도의용수비대기념관, 나리분지 등을 둘러봤다.
마지막 날은, 학생과 교원들은 울릉도 사동항에서 출발하여 우리 땅 독도에 자랑스럽게 입도해 ‘SEJONG ♥ DOKDO’가 새겨진 수건과 현수막을 들고 우리 땅 독도의 소중함을 다시 한번 확인하는 뜻깊은 자리를 가진 후, 울진 후포항을 거쳐 세종으로 돌아왔다.
또, 학생들은 ▲독도 콘텐츠 쇼츠 영상 제작 ▲독도 방문 소감문 작성 ▲독도 명예 주민증 신청 등 모둠별 활동에 자율적으로 참여하며 독도에 관한 배움을 실천으로 옮기는 과정에 적극적으로 참여하는 모습을 보여줬다.
시 교육청 관계자는 “올해도 변함없이 우리 학생들과 함께한 이번 탐방은 독도가 대한민국의 고유 영토임을 직접 체험하고 올바른 역사관을 다시 한번 마음속 깊이 새기는 가슴 뭉클하고 뜻깊은 시간이었다.”며 “앞으로도 우리 학생들이 올바른 역사관을 가지고 생생하게 독도를 체험할 수 있도록, 독도체험관을 활성화하고 독도 탐방 프로그램을 지속해서 운영하는 등 다양한 노력을 기울이겠다.”라고 말했다.
한편, 세종시교육청은 지난 2020년에 ‘세종특별자치시교육청 독도 교육 강화 조례’를 제정하고, 새롬고등학교에 독도체험관을 운영하며, 관내 우수 독도 교육 활동 학생과 교원을 대상으로 독도 탐방을 매년 추진하는 등 일본 정부의 지속적인 독도 영유권 주장과 역사 왜곡 교육에 대응하기 위한 다양한 노력을 지속해 오고 있다.
