[브레이크뉴스경기남부=수원 이현준기자] 경기주택도시공사(GH)가 폐기물 처리시스템을 변경하기로 했다.
3일 수원시 광교 본사에서 한국환경공단과 ‘폐기물 적정처리 융합 플랫폼’ 구축을 위한 업무협약을 체결했다.
이번 업무협약은 3기 신도시를 조성하는 과정에서 발생하는 폐기물의 자원화 감량화, 재순환 및 자동화를 통해 자원순환 경제를 실현하는 ‘폐기물 적정처리 융합 플랫폼’을 구축하기 위해 마련됐다.
그동안 대규모 개발사업에서 발생하는 폐기물은 전량 폐기하는 방식으로 처리했다. 그러나 GH는 이번 협약을 계기로 하남교산지구의 경우 폐기물 중 폐가전 폐플라스틱 병 캔 등 리사이클링 자원을 분리 배출해 자원화하고, 동시에 폐기물량을 줄이는 감량화를 시도하게 된다.
이에 더해 GH는 자원순환 폐기물의 제품화를 목표로 하고 있다. 예를 들어 하남교산지구에서 발생한 폐플라스틱을 해당 지구에서 일하는 건설노동자의 안전 베스트 등으로 제품화하겠다는 것이다.

이번 협약식은 제로 웨이스트 실현 등 탄소중립 취지에 맞게 전자협약서 전자 리플릿 등 페이퍼리스 방식으로 진행됐다.
GH 김세용 사장은 “GH와 한국환경공단이 함께 추진하는 혁신적 협력은 탄소중립과 ESG 경영을 실현하는 중요한 계기가 될 것”이라며 “친환경 탄소중립 실천경영을 선도하는 공공기관이 되도록 힘쓰겠다”고 전했다.
