윤석열 대통령이 5일 올해 30주년을 맞은 광주비엔날레 전시관을 방문해 관계자들을 격려 후 "앞으로 광주비엔날레 문화 브랜드 가치를 더욱 높일 수 있도록 정부가 적극 지원하겠다"고 약속했다고 대통령실이 전했다.
윤 대통령은 이날 오후 광주 동구 국립아시아문화전당에서 열리는 '제15회 광주비엔날레' 아시아 파빌리온을 방문했다. 대통령실은 "윤 대통령 현장 방문은 광주 국제적 문화·예술 위상 강화 및 글로벌 문화 중추국가로서의 지속 성장에 관심을 표명키 위해 마련됐다"고 전했다.
광주비엔날레는 지난 1995년 첫 개최 이후 세계 5대 비엔날레로 성장한 가운데 올해 경우 30개국 72명 작가가 참여하는 본 전시와 해외 국가·문화예술기관이 주체 돼 국가관을 조성하는 파빌리온 전시가 열린다. 파빌리온 전시엔 올해 역대 최대 규모인 22개국 9개 도시·기관이 참여해 총 31개 파빌리온을 선보인다.
윤 대통령은 아시아 전시관들을 돌아보며 자유를 주제로 한 필리핀 파빌리온과 환경을 주제로 한 싱가포르 파빌리온, 아세안 10개국 자연을 소재로 하는 한·아세안센터 파빌리온 등에 관해 설명을 들었다.
대통령실은 "내년 한국서 예정된 아시아태평양경제협력체(APEC) 정상회의를 앞두고 아시아 문화·예술 교류에 관해 살펴보는 자리였다"고 전했다.
그러면서 "광주 시민 자부심인 광주비엔날레는 1995년 처음 개최된 이후 세계 5대 비엔날레로 성장했다"며 "비엔날레 성장은 광주가 문화 도시로 자리 잡는 계기가 됐다"고 덧붙였다.
이날 행사엔 작품에 참여한 각국 큐레이터·작가·주한 필리핀·싱가포르·베트남 대사·유인촌 문화체육관광부 장관·강기정 광주광역시 시장·박양우 광주비엔날레 재단 대표·이강현 국립아시아문화전당장 등이 참석했다.
