윤석열 대통령이 12일 의료 개혁에 대해 "장기계획 차원서 최소한 인력 증원이란 점과 과학적 추계를 근거로 추진하는 것이니 의료인들이 오해않았음 좋겠다"며 "의료인 처우 개선에 대한 정부 진정성을 믿어주길 바란다"고 강조했다.
윤 대통령은 이날 오전 추석 연휴에 앞서 서울 중랑구 서울의료원을 방문해 관계자 간담회에서 "지역 균형발전을 위해 교육·의료는 필수 정주 요건인데 경제성장·고령화로 인한 인구구조변화 및 의료수요 증가를 고려 때 향후 필요한 의료인을 길러내는 데 상당한 시간이 필요하다"며 이같이 말했다고 정혜전 대통령실 대변인이 서면브리핑에서 전했다. 앞서 지난 4일 윤 대통령은 경기 의정부시 의정부성모병원을 방문해 응급의료 상황을 점검한 바 있다.
