대통령실이 23일 향후 북한의 7차 핵실험 가능성 관련해 "미국 대선 시점 포함 가능하다"고 밝혔다.
신원식 국가안보실장은 이날 모 매체에 출연해 '북한 핵실험 가능성' 관련 질의에 "그럴 가능성도 충분하다 생각한다"고 답했다.
그러면서 "북한 7차 핵실험은 김정은이 결심하면 언제든 할 수 있는 상태를 늘 유지하고 있다"며 "언제 할까 하는 건 전략적 유불리를 따지며 결정할 거며 그런 시점에 미국 대선 전후도 포함돼 있다 평가한다. 기술적으로 북한은 핵 소형화 등을 위해 몇 차례 더 핵실험은 필요하다"고 밝혔다.
또 "한·미·일 안보 협력 등 전방위적 협력 강화에 대해선 "3국 모두 공통된 견해를 갖고 있다고 생각한다"며 "(트럼프 당선·일본 새 총리 선출 등) 리더십 교체에도 이 트렌드엔 변함없을 것이라 생각한다"고 전했다.
이어 "지난해 캠프데이비드에서 합의한대로 올해 3국 정상회의를 해야 하는데 다자회의 계기로 할지 별도로 할 건지 협의 중이며 연내 열릴 것이라 말씀드릴 수 있다"고 밝혔다.
