윤석열 대통령이 2일 중동 사태 관련해 "뭣보다 중요한 건 우리 국민을 보호하는 것"이라며 "현지 국민 안전을 위해 필요한 모든 조치를 취해 달라"고 지시했다고 대통령실이 전했다.
윤 대통령은 이날 오후 용산 대통령실에서 이란의 이스라엘 공습 등 중동 정세 긴장 고조에 따른 긴급 경제·안보 점검회의를 주재하고 모두 발언에서 이같이 말했다고 정혜전 대통령실 대변인이 오후 브리핑에서 전했다. 당초 이날 윤 대통령 공개 일정은 없었으나 중동 사태가 확전 양상으로 흐르면서 경제·안보 상황 점검차 회의 소집이 이뤄졌다.

이어 "지난해 10월 7일 하마스가 이스라엘을 기습 공격하면서 지난 1년간 중동 상황이 악화일로를 걸었다"며 "최근 이스라엘이 무장단체 헤즈볼라를 공격했고, 반발한 이란이 이스라엘에 미사일을 발사하는 등 중동 정세에 대한 국제사회 우려가 더욱 커지고 있어 이럴 때일수록 더 침착하고 신속한 대응이 필요하다"고 강조했다.
