대통령실이 3일 김건희 여사 명품백 수수 의혹 관련해 검찰이 무혐의 처분을 내린 데 대해 "'혐의없음'이 명백한 사안"이라고 밝혔다.
대통령실은 이날 오후 언론 공지에서 "전날 검찰이 '최재영 몰카 공작' 사건에 대해 무혐의 불기소 처분을 한 것과 관련해 일부 언론에 사실과 다른 내용이 보도되고 있다"며 이같이 전했다.
최재영 목사가 김 여사에게 300만원 상당 디올백 등을 건네며 몰래 촬영한 영상을 공개한 것을 '몰카 공작'으로 규정한 것이다.
대통령실은 "영부인 경우 처벌 규정 자체가 없는 등 혐의없음이 명백해 최초 중앙지검이 불기소 의견으로 대검에 보고했던 건"이라고 설명했다.
그러면서 "대검이 국민 우려를 완전 해소하기 위해 직권으로 이를 수사심의위원회에 회부했고 수심위는 최재영 의견서까지 함께 검토 후 만장일치로 불기소 처분을 의결한 것"이라고 설명했다.
또 "최재영 경우 적용되는 법률 규정 및 사건 번호가 다른 전혀 별개 사안"이라며 "해당 사건 수심위는 최재영을 사법부 판단으로 넘기자는 차원에서 1표 차이로 기소 권고를 의결했던 것이나 최재영 본인이 최초 인정했듯 직무 관련성이 없음이 반영돼 불기소 처분된 것"이라고 덧붙였다.
앞서 전날 서울중앙지검 형사1부(부장검사 김승호)는 명품백 수수 의혹에 연루된 윤석열 대통령 내외·최 목사·백은종 서울의 소리 대표·서울의 소리 직원 이모씨 등 총 5명을 모두 수사팀 전원 일치 의견으로 불기소 처분했다. 김 여사가 최 목사로부터 명품백 등을 수수했으나 직무 관련·대가성이 없다는 게 검찰 결론이다.
