시흥시의회, 공공도서관 활성화 연구회 활동 마무리

[브레이크뉴스경기남부=시흥 이현준기자] 시흥시의회 의원 연구단체 ‘시흥시 공공도서관 활성화 연구회’가 1년간의 연구 활동을 마무리했다.

지난 9월 30일 제4차 활동을 마지막으로 소속 의원을 비롯해 시흥시 문화예술과, 중앙도서관 등 관계자 10여명이 참석했다.

이번 연구회 활동에서는 시흥시 공공도서관의 운영 개선 방안과 시민들이 책을 가까이에서 접할 수 있는 다양한 문화공간 조성에 대해 심도 있는 논의가 이루어졌다. 토의 과정에서 갯골생태공원 내 소금 창고를 활용한 힐링 공간 조성에 대한 아이디어가 제시되었으나, 동시에 경기도 문화재 등록, 건축물 상태, 개발제한구역 관련 법 등의 제약사항에 대한 우려도 함께 표명됐다.

윤석경 의원은 기존 공원에 있는 작은 도서관들을 리모델링하여 시민들의 요구와 변화하는 시대 흐름에 맞춰 개선하는 것이 중요하다고 강조했다. 또한, 김수연 의원은 서울시에서 운영 중인 공원 내 ‘책쉼터’와 같은 힐링공간 조성의 필요성을 주장했다. 이에 시범 운영을 위한 공원이나 산책로 등 공간 발굴에 적극적인 노력을 기울여 달라고 당부했다.

연구회는 1년간의 긴 활동을 마무리하지만, 앞으로도 시흥시 공공도서관의 질을 향상시키고 시민들에게 더욱 친근하고 편안한 독서 환경을 제공하기 위해 다양한 의정활동을 펼쳐나갈 계획이다.
