라오스를 순방 중인 윤석열 대통령이 11일(현지시간) 동아시아 앤소니 노먼 알바니지 호주 총리와 정상회담을 가졌다.
윤 대통령은 이날 오전 라오스 수도 비엔티안 국립컨벤션센터(NCC)에서 열린 알바니지 총리와의 정상회담에서 양국 간 실질 협력 방안·역내 및 글로벌 현안 등에 대해 의견을 나눴다.
윤 대통령은 "양국 간 고위급 교류가 활발히 이뤄지고 있는 걸 기쁘게 생각한다"며 "가치를 공유하는 유사 입장국 한·호주가 '포괄적 전략 동반자' 관계를 바탕으로 각급에서 소통·협력을 계속 심화해 나가길 바란다"고 말했다.
그러면서 호주가 추진 중인 호위함 획득 사업에 대한 한국 기업들 참여 의지를 강조 후 호주 측 관심을 요청한 가운데 호주 해군은 군 현대화 사업 일환으로 다목적 호위함 11척 획득 사업을 추진 중이다.
알바니지 총리는 인도·태평양 지역 평화·번영을 위한 윤 대통령 리더십을 높이 평가 후 "인태지역 대표적 우방국 한·호주가 긴밀히 협력하면서 유사입장국 간 특별한 연대를 계속 강화해 나가자"고 밝혔다.
양 정상은 회담에서 전통적 경제협력을 넘어 국방·방산·공급망·경제안보 분야에서 파트너십을 발전시키고 있는 것에 환영한다며 양국 간 굳건한 신뢰를 바탕으로 이 분야에서의 협력을 더욱 확대해 나가기로 했다. 또 향후 가급적 이른 시기 다시 만나 양국 관계를 비롯 상호 관심사 관련해 의견을 교환키로 했다.
