브레이크뉴스 문홍철 기자= 현대자동차그룹이 국내 최고 연구기관들과의 협력을 통해 차량의 고장을 미리 파악할 수 있는 기술을 개발한다.
현대차그룹은 서울대학교와 건국대학교, 성균관대학교, 인하대학교, 한국기술교육대학교, 한양대학교, GIST, UNIST 등 8개 대학들과 차량 고장을 예측하고 예방할 수 있는 PHM(Prognostics and Health Management, 고장 예측 및 관리) 기술을 개발하기 위한 공동 연구실을 설립한다고 16일 밝혔다.
PHM 기술은 자율주행과 전동화 시대에 차량 시스템의 신뢰성을 높이는 핵심 기술로 부상하고 있다. 시스템의 복잡성 증가로 발생할 수 있는 잠재적 고장을 사전에 예측하고 관리할 수 있어 유지보수 비용 절감과 안전성 향상에 기여할 수 있기 때문이다.
서울대학교 엔지니어하우스에서 열린 협약식에는 현대차·기아 R&D본부장 양희원 사장, 차량성능기술센터장 조병훈 상무, 차량성능열화리서치랩 성대운 연구위원과 현대엔지비 오정훈 대표이사 등 회사 관계자, 서울대학교 공과대학장 김영오 교수 및 기계공학부 윤병동 교수, 성균관대학교 이상원 교수 등 참여 대학 관계자들이 참석했다.
이날 참석자들은 공동 연구실을 통해 2027년까지 PHM의 요소 기술과 차량에 탑재되는 하드웨어 및 소프트웨어 개발, PHM 플랫폼 개발을 위한 기반기술을 연구하기로 합의했다.
또한, 차량 시스템별 센싱 및 데이터 전략을 수립하고 알고리즘 및 프로세서의 효율화, PHM 플랫폼 및 인프라 개발을 위해 노력하기로 했다.
특히, 공동 연구실은 차량 시스템의 고장을 실시간으로 예측하기 위한 센서 데이터 수집과 예측 알고리즘 최적화에 중점을 두고 개발을 추진한다. 이를 통해 PHM 플랫폼을 차량 내 임베디드 시스템 또는 클라우드 기반으로 구현해 고장 예측의 정확성을 높일 예정이다.
공동 연구실을 총괄하는 현대차·기아는 PHM 기술 검증 및 양산 차량 적용을 목표로 연구를 진행할 계획이며, 대학들과의 유기적 협력 체계를 바탕으로 PHM 경쟁력을 강화한다.
현대엔지비는 글로벌 전문가 네트워크를 통해 최신 연구 트렌드를 파악하며, 이를 통해 참여 기관에 올바른 개발 방향을 제시한다. 또한 공동연구실이 더 효과적인 결과를 낼 수 있도록 유기적인 협력을 독려한다.
현대차·기아 양희원 사장은 “PHM 기술은 시스템이 복잡해지는 자율주행 시대의 핵심 기술로 꼽힌다”며 “국내 대학들과의 협력을 통해 기술력을 강화해 다가올 자율주행 시대를 선도하는 경쟁력을 갖출 것으로 기대한다”고 말했다.
한편, 현대차·기아는 이번 연구 성과를 기반으로 PBV의 예방정비 시스템을 국내 협력 업체들과 연계해 상용화하는 것을 목표로 하고 있다. 이를 통해 PHM 기술을 자율주행 차량 뿐 아니라 다양한 모빌리티 분야로 확장할 계획이다.
