[브레이크뉴스경기남부=용인 이현준기자] 이상일 용인특례시장은 제72주년 재향군인의 날 기념식에 참석했다.
16일 시청 에이스홀에서 국가 안보를 지키기 위해 노력해 온 재향 군인들의 노고를 격려하고 유공자에게 표창했다.
용인시재향군인회 주관으로 열린 이날 행사에는 이상일 용인특례시장을 비롯해 지역 국회의원과 도·시의원들과 김문석 용인시재향군인회장, 보훈·안보 단체 회원 등 300여명이 참석했다.
이 시장은 이날 향군 발전과 지역 안보의식 강화에 노력한 유공으로 염광열, 김재천, 윤준례 용인시재향군인회원에게 용인특례시장 표창을 전달했다.
이 자리에선 박상환 회원이 경기도지사 표장을, 권홍식, 허숙 회원이 용인특례시의회 의장 표창을 받았다.
또 재향군인회의 발전을 위해 이바지해 온 공로로 김재윤, 이성열, 이명자 용인시재향군인회원이 각각 대한민국재향군인 회장, 경기도재향군인 회장, 용인시재향군인 회장 표창장을 받고, 임갑순 주식회사 이파람 대표이사가 감사패를 받았다.
재향군인의 날은 국토방위에 대한 인식을 견고히 하고 재향 군인의 친목을 도모하기 위해 지정된 날이다.
앞서 세계향군연맹에 회원국으로 가입한 날(1961년 5월 8일)을 기념일로 지정(1965년)했다가 어버이날과 겹치는 문제로 지난 2002년, 기념일을 10월 8일로 변경했다.
