브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 북한이 우크라이나 전쟁 지원을 위해 러시아로 군대를 파병했다는 정황이 속속 나오는 가운데, 미국 정부는 '확인해줄 수 없다'는 모호한 태도를 보이고 있다.
지난 17일(현지시각) 볼로디미르 젤렌스키 우크라이나 대통령은 벨기에 수도 브뤼셀 나토 본부에서 열린 EU 정상회의 참석 후 가진 기자회견에서 "우리 정보당국은 북한이 러시아에 군인 1만명 파병을 준비하고 있다는 정보를 수집했다"면서 "북한은 이미 우크라이나 내 러시아가 일시적으로 점령한 영토에 전술 요원과 장교 등을 파견했다"고 설명했다.
국가정보원 역시 지난 18일 보도자료를 통해 "북한의 최정예 특수부대 1500명이 러시아 극동지역에서 훈련받고 있다"면서 어떤 부대가 어떻게 이동했는지와 투입된 지역까지도 상세히 공개했다.

그러나 미국 정부는 아직까지 북한의 파병 여부에 대해 구체적인 언급을 하고 있지 않다.
로이드 오스틴 미국 국방장관은 지난 19일(현지시각) G7 국방장관회의에 참석해 "북한의 파병이 사실인지 여부를 확인해줄 수 없다"면서 "우리는 조사를 계속하고 있다"고 원론적인 답변만 내놨다.
숀 사벳 백악관 국가안전보장회의(NSC) 대변인도 "파병 보도가 정확한지 확인할 수 없다"면서 "우리는 북한군이 러시아를 대신해 싸우는 것에 매우 우려하고 있다. 보도가 사실이라면 러-우 전쟁에서 위험한 진전이 될 것"이라고 평가했다.

US government: 'Unconfirmed... Concerns if true' on North Korea's dispatch of troops to Russia
As evidence continues to emerge that North Korea has dispatched troops to Russia to support the war in Ukraine, the US government is maintaining an ambiguous stance, saying, 'We cannot confirm this.'
