【브레이크뉴스 경주】박희경 기자=지방소멸 위기를 맞아 생활 인구 유치에 안간힘을 쏟고 있는 경주시는 문무대왕면 토함산자연휴양림 내에 내년 10월까지 40억 원의 예산을 들여 웨케이션빌리지를 조성한다고 29일 밝혔다.

생활 인구는 정부가 정주 인구뿐 아니라 지역에 체류하면서 활력을 높이는 사람까지 지역의 인구로 보는 개념을 도입하면서 마련됐다. 이는 주민등록지 외 지역에 월 1회, 하루 3시간 이상 체류하는 사람과 외국인으로 구성된다.
이번 사업은 스타트업 기업 및 청년층의 업무 방식 변화에 발맞춰 자유롭게 일하면서 휴양을 즐길 수 있는 공간 마련으로 젊은층 유입·정착을 통해 고령화된 동경주 지역의 인구감소를 극복하기 위해 마련됐다.
부지에는 공유하우스 9동, 공유오피스 1동, 부대시설 2동이 조성된다.
공유오피스는 기존 국학관(953㎡)을 리모델링해 건립되며, 부대시설로는 음악감상실, 갤러리, 요가 등의 다양한 공간이 들어선다.
특히 시는 동경주지역에 추진 중인 신라킹덤오션과 문무해양 프로젝트의 다양한 해양레저 프로그램과 연계해 웨케이션빌리지를 운영할 방침이다.
여기에 지역의 강점인 문화유산 및 자전거 투어, 골프투어를 비롯해 감포 어민들을 활용한 선상낚시 및 돌문어잡이, 요트 체험 등 경주만의 특화된 프로그램도 함께 운영한다.
특히 공유오피스는 문무대왕면, 양남면, 감포읍 등의 주민과 지역숙박업소 활용 고객에 한해 무료로 개방하며, 이외 이용자는 소정의 이용료를 부과할 예정이다.
시는 지난 7월 실시설계 용역을 시작으로 내년 1월 공사를 착공해 당해 10월 워케이션빌리지 준공 및 개장 계획이다.
한편 워케이션이란 일(work)과 휴가(vaction)의 합성어로 일을 하면서 휴가를 동시에 즐기는 근무 형태를 의미하는 신조어이다.
주낙영 경주시장은 “경주는 역사문화관광은 물론 산과 바다가 공유되는 휴양지에서 업무와 휴식이 동시에 가능한 최적의 조건을 갖춘 도시”라며 “남은 기간 지역 브랜딩을 선점해 최고의 워케이션 성지로 거듭날 수 있도록 최선을 다 하겠다”고 말했다.

The city plans to start construction in January next year after starting the detailed design service in July, and complete and open the vacation village in October of that year.
Meanwhile, workation is a new word that combines the words work and vacation, and refers to a work style that allows people to work and enjoy vacation at the same time. Mayor Joo Nak-young of Gyeongju said, “Gyeongju is a city with the best conditions for both work and relaxation in a resort area where historical and cultural tourism as well as mountains and the sea are shared,” and added, “We will do our best to take the lead in regional branding during the remaining period so that it can be reborn as the best workation mecca.”
