윤석열 대통령이 6일 마크 루터 나토(NATO·북대서양조약기구) 사무총장과 전화통화를 갖고 북한 러시아 파병·우크라이나 참전 동향 관련 정보를 공유하고 향후 대응계획을 논의했다고 대통령실이 전했다.
윤 대통령은 이날 오후 이뤄진 통화에서 루터 사무총장에게 "심도 있는 협의를 위해 우크라이나 특사 방한을 논의하고 있다"며 "우크라이나와 협의하는 과정서 나토와도 긴밀히 소통해 나가겠다"고 했다.
이번 통화는 지난달 1일 루터 사무총장 취임 후 세 번째로 지난달 28일 통화에서도 북한군 러시아 파병 문제를 논의한 바 있다.
그러면서 한국 정부 대표단이 지난주 나토·유럽연합(EU)에 이어 우크라이나를 방문해 우크라이나 당국과 러·북 군사협력에 대한 향후 대응 방안을 논의했다고 설명했다
더불어 "정부는 향후 우크라이나와 협의하는 과정서 나토와도 긴밀하게 소통해 나갈 것"이라고 덧붙였다.
루터 사무총장은 "가까운 시일 내 북한군이 본격 우크라이나 전쟁에 참전할 가능성이 크다"며 "러시아의 우크라이나 침략과 러·북 불법 군사협력으로 초래된 유례없는 안보 위기에 대응해 한국·나토를 비롯 가치 공유국들이 연대를 더욱 강화해 나가야 한다"고 했다.
또 "점증하는 안보 위협에 대응해 나토·EU 협력을 강화키 위한 '특별 태스크포스'를 설치키로 했다"며 "한·우크라이나·나토 간 긴밀한 소통·협력을 계속 이어나가길 희망한다"고 했다.
더불어 "나토가 중장기적 안목에서 한국과 방산 협력을 강화해 나가길 바란다"고 덧붙였다.
대통령실은 "정부는 우리 핵심 안보이익을 위협하는 러·북 군사적 밀착에 대한 다양한 대응조치를 검토하면서 국제사회와 함께 북한 도발·위협에 단호하게 대응해 나갈 것"이라고 밝혔다.
