세종시의회가 지난 7일 오후 4시 시의회 1층 대회의실에서 ‘세종 스포노믹스(스포츠산업을 통한 경제활성화) 연구모임(대표의원 김재형)’ 제6차 간담회를 개최하고 ‘프로스포츠 구단 유치방안 검토에 관한 연구용역’ 최종보고회를 가졌다고 8일 밝혔다.
연구모임은 지난 2월 세종시를 대표할 수 있는 스포츠 종목을 발굴하여 인프라 구성 등과 연계한 스포츠산업 활성화를 도모해 경제 활성화에 이바지하는 것을 목표로 발족했으며, 시의원 3명과 관련 전문가 8명으로 구성됐다.
이날 최종보고회에는 김재형 대표의원, 안신일 의원을 비롯한 연구모임 회원과 고려대학교 에스시아이 연구진 및 관련 공무원 등 20여 명이 참석했다.
연구모임은 지난 5월 프로스포츠 구단 유치 방안 검토를 위한 연구용역을 의뢰하고 6번의 정책연구 개발을 위한 논의를 거쳐 오늘 최종보고회를 끝으로 활동을 마무리했다.
연구 결과 국가의 스포츠산업 성장지원 등 국내 스포츠산업 전반의 성장세가 지속되고 있지만 세종시는 프로스포츠 발달 환경에 유리한 조건을 갖추고 있음에도 인프라 부족으로 인해 성장이 저조한 것으로 나타났다.
또한 프로스포츠 구단의 무리한 유치는 구단의 경영난으로 인해 세종시의 재정 부담을 가중할 수 있기에 신중한 종목 선택이 필요할 것으로 검토되었다.
이에 대해 각종 프로스포츠의 ‘컵 대회’를 유치해 시민들의 스포츠 관람에 대한 갈증을 해소하는 동시에 종목별 반응에 따라 프로구단 유치를 검토하는 방안, 대규모 경기장이 요구되지 않으면서 국제 및 국내대회에서 성과를 낼 수 있는 종목이나 국제대회 편입 예정 종목을 육성하는 방안 등이 제시되었다.
연구모임 회원들은 이번 2027 하계세계대학경기대회를 위한 종합경기장 건립이 어려워진 상황을 안타까워하며, 추가 의견으로 각종 클럽스포츠대회 유치 노력 ,국제대회 정식규격을 갖춘 체육 인프라 시설 마련 ,세종시 주관 종목대회 증설 ,스포츠인 육성을 위한 관내 체육시설을 활용한 정식교육 지원 등을 제안했다.
