윤석열 대통령이 5박 8일(14∼21일) 일정으로 페루 APEC(아시아태평양 경제협력체)·브라질 G20(주요 20개국) 정상회의 등 참석차 오는 14일 출국한다고 대통령실이 12일 전했다. 이번 순방은 대통령 취임 후 첫 남미 방문으로 부인 김건희 여사는 동행하지 않는다.
김태효 국가안보실 제1차장은 이날 오후 용산 대통령실 브리핑에서 윤 대통령이 페루 리마·브라질 리우데자네이루를 잇달아 방문한다며 순방 일정·취지·의미·기대 성과 등을 설명하며 이같이 전했다.
그러면서 "APEC·G20 회의 기간 윤 대통령·일본 이시바 총리와 정상회담이 추진되고 있고, 더 많은 국가와도 정상회담이 조율되고 있다"며 "윤 대통령은 APEC 정상회의 첫 세션에서 내년 APEC 의장국으로서 '대한민국이 자유롭고 안정적 무역 투자 환경 조성을 위해 앞장설 것'을 천명할 것"이라고 전했다.
또 "다자 정상회의 외교 무대서 글로벌 중추 국가로 우리 책임 외교를 구현하는 의미가 있다"며 "우리 외교 지평·실질 협력을 중남미로 확대한다는 의미가 있다"고 덧붙였다.
윤 대통령은 페루 리마(14~16일)·브라질 리우데자네이루(17~19일)를 방문하는 가운데 페루에서 오는 15일 APEC 회원국·비회원국이 참석하는 비공개 대화에 참여한다.
