제31차 APEC(아시아태평양 경제협력체) 정상회의 참석차 페루를 방문 중인 윤석열 대통령은 15일(현지시간) 쥐스탱 트뤼도 캐나다 총리와 정상회담을 갖고 안보·방산·경제 협력 포함 실질 협력 증진 방안 논의 및 불법적 러·북 군사 협력을 규탄하며 북한군 러시아 파병 관련 동향을 공유했다.
윤 대통령은 이날 페루 리마컨벤션센터에서 열린 한·캐나다 정상회담에서 "지난 1일 캐나다 오타와에서 '외교·국방(2+2) 장관회의'가 성공적 출범한 것을 환영한다"며 "2+2 회의 출범 계기로 양국 간 호혜적 방산 협력 포함 포괄적 안보 협력이 더욱 확대되길 바란다"고 말했다고 대통령실이 전햇다.
그러면서 캐나다가 그간 유엔사 부사령관 파견 등 유엔사에 대한 기여·대북 제재 이행을 통해 한반도 평화·안정에 기여해 온 데 사의를 표하고 "향후에도 역내 평화·안정을 위한 협력을 지속해 나가길 기대한다"고 했다.

더불어 양국이 내년에 각각 APEC·G7 (주요 7개국)의장국을 수임하는 만큼 상호 협력을 통한 시너지를 낼 수 있도록 협력해 나가기로 했다.
