제19차 G20(주요 20개국) 정상회의 참석차 브라질을 방문한 윤석열 대통령이 19일(현지시간) "대한민국은 기후변화 취약국들을 위한 '녹색 사다리' 역할을 적극 수행해 갈 것"이라고 밝혔다.
윤 대통령은 이날 리우데자네이루 현대미술관에서 열린 G20 세션3에서 "2050년 탄소중립 목표 달성을 위해 청정에너지 전환은 필수 과제이나 이를 위한 부담은 신흥경제·개도국들에 가중되고 있다"며 이같이 말했다.
그러면서 "지난해 유엔총회서 '무탄소에너지(CFE) 이니셔티브'를 제안하고 정부는 올 10월 청정에너지 장관회의에서 파트너국들과 함께 'CFE 글로벌 작업반'을 발족했다"며 "앞으로 대한민국은 무탄소에너지 인증체계를 개발해 나가면서 'CFE 이니셔티브'를 더욱 확산시킬 예정"이라고 했다.
또 "지난해 뉴델리 G20 정상회의서 공약한 '녹색기후기금'에 대한 3억불 추가 지원을 올해부터 이행 중"이라며 "올 6월 한·아프리카 정상회의서 기후변화 피해를 지원하는 '손실·피해 대응 기금'에 700만불 신규 출연 게획을 발표했다"고 전했다.
이어 "지속가능 개발에 민간 역량·재원을 투여키 위한 노력도 선도할 계획"이라며 "재생에너지 투자에 따른 위험을 경감해 민간 녹색 투자를 촉진하고 청정수소 발전 입찰 시장 개설같은 시장 메커니즘 도입을 통해 청정에너지 발전 가속화를 위해 노력하겠다"고 했다.
더불어 "지속가능한 개발을 위해 플라스틱 오염 감축에 대한 노력도 반드시 병행 필요가 있다"며 "정부는 오는 25일 부산서 개시되는 '국제 플라스틱 협약' 성안을 위한 제5차 정부 간 협상의 성공적 타결을 지원할 것"이라고 했다.
윤 대통령은 "인공지능(AI) 등 디지털 첨단기술에 대한 수요 급증이 막대한 양 에너지 소비로 이어지고 있는 상황서 디지털 산업 고효율화·디지털 인프라 저전력화 등을 통한 '디지털 탄소중립' 노력이 매우 중요하다"고 강조했다.
또 "이날 G20 정상들이 논의한 다양한 방안들이 내년 대한민국 경주서 개최되는 '2025 APEC 정상회의' 성공적 개최를 위한 중요 자산이 될 것"이라며 "대한민국은 전 인류를 위한 지속가능한 내일을 열어나가기 위해 앞으로도 책임 있는 역할을 계속할 것"이라고 덧붙였다.
