세종시가 21일 제주에서 열린 2024년 폐가전제품 무상방문수거 우수지자체 경진대회에서 중소형 폐가전 부문 환경부 장관상을 받았다.
세종시에 따르면 환경부는 지난 9월부터 폐가전제품 무상 수거 체계 확대와 관련된 기반시설 확보, 대국민 홍보 활성화를 위한 무상수거 체계 확대 활동 등에 대해 서면, 현장 평가를 진행했다.
이번 평가에서 세종시는 중소형 폐가전 부문의 활성화 계획과 폐가전 수거 거점 확대 등에서 높은 점수를 받아 최종 은상을 수상했다.
올해 세종시는 의회, 이(e)순환거버넌스, 세종아파트연합회 등 관련 기관·단체와 간담회를 통해 세종형 폐가전 맞춤수거를 발굴해 왔다.
또 읍면동 행정복지센터 24곳과 공동주택 97곳 등 상시 배출가능한 중소형 폐가전 맞춤수거 거점 장소를 확대 모집했고 거점장소를 점검·정비하며 환경개선에 힘썼다.
이(e)순환거버넌스의 무상방문 수거는 읍면동 행정복지센터와 공동주택 맞춤형 수거서비스를 신청한 공동주택 단지 내 별도 마련된 수거함에 전기밥솥, 선풍기 등 중소형 폐가전을 수시 배출하면 정기적으로 방문수거하는 방식으로 운영된다.
또 중소형 폐가전을 5개 이상 동시 배출하는 경우 이순환거버넌스 콜센터에 문의하면 폐기물 스티커를 부착하지 않은 상태에서 무상방문 수거가 가능하다.
냉장고, 세탁기, 에어컨 등 대형 폐가전 등의 품목도 이순환거버넌스 콜센터를 통해 무상방문 수거를 신청할 수 있다.
시는 앞으로도 공동주택을 대상으로 중소형 폐가전 맞춤수거 거점 장소를 확대하고 무상방문 수거를 적극적으로 홍보할 계획이다.
아울러 폐가전 폐기물 적정 처리와 배출수수료 부담 해소 등 주민 불편을 최소화하고 폐가전제품 자원 재활용도 더욱 활성화할 방침이다.
김은희 자원순환과장은 “가전제품의 종류가 많아지고 교체 주기가 빨라지면서 각 가정에서 폐가전의 발생량이 늘어나고 있다”며 “앞으로도 시민들이 폐가전을 편리하게 배출하고 폐가전은 소중한 자원으로 활용하도록 노력하겠다”고 말했다.
