계룡시는 28일 시청 상황실에서 ‘6.25 전쟁 참전국 기념정원 타당성조사 및 기본구상’ 용역 착수보고회를 진행했다고 밝혔다.
국가정원의 조성 방향, 주요 과제, 기본 구상안 등에 관한 내용이 논의된 이날 보고회에는 이응우 시장, 관계 공무원 및 자문위원 등 20여 명이 참석했다.
참전국 기념정원은 6.25 전쟁 당시 희생과 헌신으로 대한민국을 지킨 참전국들에 대한 감사의 마음을 담아내고, 이를 통해 평화의 메시지를 국내외로 전파할 수 있는 상징적 공간으로 조성될 예정이다.
특히, 대한민국 역사에서 6.25 전쟁 참전국이 가지는 의미와 참전용사들에 대한 감사함을 정원계획에 어떻게 조화롭게 녹여낼 것인지 등에 관해 심도 있는 의견 교환이 이루어졌다.
아울러 단순한 공원의 개념을 넘어서 지역의 정체성을 반영함은 물론 역사와 문화 체험, 치유 및 힐링의 장이 될 수 있도록 정원 내 다양한 공간을 설치하는 방안에 대해서도 깊이 있는 의견이 제안됐다.
이응우 시장은 “정원도시 조성을 통해 쾌적하고 살기 좋은 녹색환경 조성은 물론 정원이 지역주민이 모이고 화합하는 소통의 공간도 될 것으로 기대한다”며 “주민 삶의 질을 개선하고 도시브랜드를 한 층 강화할 수 있는 국가정원 조성에 행정력을 집중하겠다”고 말했다.
