서천군은 '철길너머 희망으로(路)' 사업이 '2024년 지역개발 우수사례 경진대회' 정주여건 개선 부문에서 최우수상을 수상하는 쾌거를 거뒀다고 16일 밝혔다.
군은 2020년부터 2023년까지 55억원을 투입, 서면 도둔리 일원 5만5724㎡에 녹지공원과 함께 다목적구장, 어린이 놀이터, 산책로, 화장실 등 복합문화공간을 조성했다.
이 사업은 서천화력선 폐철도부지를 체험·휴식·놀이 공간으로 탈바꿈시킨 사례로서 편의시설을 설치하고, 아스팔트 도로와 경작로를 정비해 주민과 방문객의 편의를 높이는 등 정주여건 개선을 위해 많은 노력을 기울였다.
특히, 이번 국토교통부 주최 경진대회에서는 CCTV 43대와 공원 방범등 131주를 설치해 안전 확보와 범죄 예방에 기여한 점이 긍정적으로 평가 받았다.
또한, 주민들과 협력해 다양한 문화행사를 유치하고 프로그램을 기획함으로써 공간 활용도를 극대화하고 지역공동체의 결속력 강화에 기여한 점도 좋은 평가를 얻었다.
박상규 산림공원과장은 "민관 협의체의 적극적인 활동을 통해 좋은 성과를 얻었다"고 자평했다.
