최근 세간에는 서울대학 법대 출신들이 나라를 망치고 있다는 루머가 널리 퍼져있다. 아마도 현실 정치에서 기대 이하의 수준 모습을 바라보는 국민의 정서일 것이다.
그들의 저급한 언행에 실망도 하지만 꼭 행하여야 할 때 침묵을 지키는 그들의 모습에서 더욱 분노하는 것은 아닐까? 침묵은 잔인한 위선이라고 했다.

나라가 어려울 때마다 분연히 일어나 논리적으로 지향해야 할 가치를 일깨워주고 행하였던 최고의 지성 집단이었던 그들이 언제부터인가 사욕에 머물며 세상을 흐리고 어둡게 물들이고 있고, 행하여 할 때는 그저 침묵하는 것이 가장 큰 덕목이 된듯하다.
예전에 세상의 버팀목 역할을 해주었던 그 대학 출신 크신 분들의 발자취가 새삼 그립다.

눈이 많이 내렸다. 절기로는 입춘이 지났다. 얼음 밑으로 이미 물이 흐르고 있다. 긴 어둠의 끝 어슴푸레 여명으로 분별이 일어나는 시간을 새벽이라고 한다. 맑게 시작을 알리는 새벽이 그립다. 세상을 밝게 이끌어주는 시간에 안도하게 될 것이다.

마음이 힘들고 어려울 때 음악은 위로가 된다. 국악은 특히 편하게 정서적 공감이 되며 울림을 주는 것 같다. 황병기 선생님은 우리 국악의 대중화에 가장 위대한 족적을 남기신 분이다,
가야금 배우는 것을 허락받기 위해 서울대 법대를 가셨다고 한다. 생전에 그분의 연주는 봉황이 벽오동에 깃들이는 듯 범접할 수 없는 위엄과 고귀함을 품고 있는 듯하였다.

지금도 선생님의 가야금 소리를 자주 듣는다. 자연의 섬세한 내면의 소리를 표현해 내신 그 소리에 시름을 잊고 빠져들곤 한다. 음은 잠시 허공에 머물며 무늬를 그려 아름답다. 머무는 동안 자연을 거스르지 않고 봄날 향기 머금고 흩날리는 꽃잎처럼 아스라이 스러진다
바람에 빗겨 햇살에 일렁이는 잎 새, 풀잎에 맺힌 이슬, 웅크렸다 터져 나오는 석류의 알갱이, 얼음 밑을 흐르는 물소리, 달빛 위를 흐르는 구름, 가야금의 선율은 탄력 있게 오동 나무판을 공명하며 깊고 그윽하게 흐른다. 자연과 동화되어 일렁이는 흥취가 있다.

국악은 음들이 각기 특이한 형태의 자연석처럼 존재하기 때문에 여러 가지 형태의 자연과 동화된 정원을 꾸미는 것처럼 만드는 것이라고 하였다.
느리게 흐르다 농현의 손길 오르내림에 구비치는 국악이 아름답다. 자연에 동화되어 흐르는 음의 여운을 따라 공감을 이루는 침묵은 고요하고 경이롭다.

아직 여명의 시간에 우리는 기다린다. 채워지지 않는 결핍, 실망할 수밖에 없는 욕망을 쫓는 헛된 망상에서 벗어나 다시금 세상을 밝히고 참된 정의와 올바른 삶의 가치를 부르짖는 최고 지성의 큰사람으로 우뚝 서 어두움이 깃든 내 민족, 내 나라를 위하여 묵묵히 불을 밝히고 앞서 나아가기를 바란다.

We are disappointed by their low-level words and actions, but aren’t we even more angry at their silence when they absolutely must act?Silence is cruel hypocrisy. I miss the footsteps of the great people who graduated from that university who used to be the pillars of the world.
