부영그룹 이중근 회장은 최근 유엔군의 희생을 강조하며 대한민국의 존재를 언급하고, 유엔데이를 공휴일로 재지정할 것을 제안했다. 그는 역사적 맥락을 돌아보며, 저출생 문제 해결을 위한 출산장려금 지급의 중요성을 강조했다.
부영그룹은 5일 서울 중구 부영태평빌딩에서 열린 '2025년 시무식'에서, 저출생 문제를 해결하기 위해 직원 자녀 1명당 1억 원의 출산장려금을 지급했다. 이로써 지난해부터 올해까지 총 98억 원이 지급된 셈이다. 이 회장은 저출생 문제의 심각성을 경고하며, 출산장려금이 경제적 부담을 덜어주는 효과를 가져왔다고 설명했다.
특히, 출산장려금 지급 이후 사내 출산율이 증가한 점이 주목할 만하다. 2021년부터 2023년까지 연평균 23명의 아이가 태어난 반면, 올해는 28명이 출산장려금 혜택을 받았다. 이는 출산장려금이 저출생 문제 해결의 실질적인 대안이 되고 있음을 보여준다.
이 회장은 또한 유엔군의 희생을 잊지 말고, 그 정신을 후세에 전하기 위해 유엔데이를 공휴일로 지정할 필요성을 강조했다. 그는 6·25전쟁에서 유엔군이 보여준 희생을 기리며, 이를 통해 대한민국이 존재하게 되었음을 상기시켰다.
유엔데이는 1945년 10월 24일 국제연합의 창설을 기념하는 날로, 과거에는 한국에서도 공휴일로 지정되었으나, 북한의 유엔 가입 이후 폐지되었다. 현재 한국에는 유엔참전유산이 두 곳 있으며, 이 회장은 참전용사들에게 감사의 마음을 담아 기념비 건립을 지원한 바 있다.
마지막으로, 이 회장은 역사 바로 알리기를 위해 다섯 권의 역사서를 집필하며, 올바른 역사 인식을 확산시키기 위해 노력하고 있다. 부영그룹은 이러한 사회공헌 활동을 통해 모범적인 ESG 경영을 실천하고 있다.
BOUYOUNG GROUP to pay 100 million in incentives to 28 maternity employees
In a recent speech highlighting the sacrifices of United Nations troops in South Korea, BOUYOUNG Group Chairman and CEO Doo-Keun Lee suggested that UN Day be re-designated as a public holiday. He also reviewed the historical context and emphasized the importance of providing childbirth subsidies to address the low birthrate.
At the “2025 Opening Ceremony” held at the BOUYOUNG Taepyeong Building in Jung-gu, Seoul, on May 5, BOUYOUNG Group provided KRW 100 million in childbirth incentives for each child of its employees to address the declining birthrate. This totaled 9.8 billion won from last year to this year. Chairman Lee warned of the seriousness of the declining birthrate, explaining that the subsidy has helped ease the financial burden.
In particular, it is noteworthy that the company's fertility rate has increased since the subsidy was provided. From 2021 to 2023, an average of 23 children were born annually, while this year, 28 people received the subsidy. This shows that the subsidy is becoming a viable alternative to addressing the low birthrate.
Mr. Lee also emphasized the need to recognize UN Day as a public holiday to remember the sacrifices made by UN forces and to pass on their spirit to future generations. He honored the sacrifices made by UN troops in the Korean War, reminding us that it was through them that the Republic of Korea came into existence.
UN Day commemorates the founding of the United Nations on October 24, 1945, and used to be a public holiday in South Korea, but was abolished after North Korea joined the UN. Today, there are two United Nations War Heritage Sites in South Korea, and Lee has supported the construction of a monument to honor the veterans.
Finally, Mr. Lee has written five history books to help spread historical awareness, and he is working to ensure that history is told correctly. Through these social contribution activities, BOUYOUNG Group is practicing exemplary ESG management.
