브레이크뉴스 최애리 기자= 쿠팡은 제주 지역에 신선식품 새벽배송 서비스 운영을 시작했다고 12일 밝혔다.
제주도의 와우회원은 자정까지 1만5000원 이상 신선식품을 구매하면 다음 날 오전 7시까지 무료 새벽배송을 받을 수 있다.
쿠팡은 제주시·서귀포시를 비롯한 주요 인구밀집지역을 시작으로, 도내 전반으로 신선식품 새벽배송을 확대하면서 향후 당일배송 서비스도 오픈할 계획이다.
제주 와우회원들은 400여종의 주요 인기 신선식품을 무료 새벽배송으로 주문할 수 있다. 계란·두부·정육부터 김치·깍두기·젓갈, 만두·즉석국 같은 다양한 냉장냉동 간편식 등이 포함된다.
쿠팡은 여러 신선식품 카테고리에 거쳐 주문 가능품목을 1700여종 이상으로 늘려 나갈 계획이다. 신선식품 외에도 인기 상온식품(라면·스낵·즉석밥·양념류 등)과 생활주방용품(세제·샴푸·치약 등), 가전·뷰티·문구류 같은 일반 상품 8000여종을 새벽배송으로 주문할 수 있어 전체 서비스 상품은 1만여종에 이를 전망이다.
쿠팡의 제주도 새벽배송 서비스는 약 200억원 투자로 신선식품의 보관·출하·새벽배송을 가능하게 만든 마이크로풀필먼트센터(MFC)를 구축했기에 가능했다.
쿠팡은 지난해 초부터 제주 애월읍에 지하 1층~지상3층 규모의 물류시설을 운영, 최근까지 생활필수품 등 일반 상품을 포함해 신선식품 보관이 가능한 저온 냉장·냉동 시설과 설비를 추가로 구축했다. MFC는 인공지능(AI) 기술 기반으로 고객 주문 수요를 예측해 주문량이 많은 상품을 보관하는 물류 시설로 주문 즉시 배송이 가능하다. 제주도에 새벽배송이 가능한 물류 인프라를 구축한 유통 기업은 쿠팡이 처음이다.
쿠팡 관계자는 “쿠팡의 제주 지역 신선식품 무료 새벽배송 서비스로 제주 지역의 생활 여건이 획기적으로 개선될 것으로 기대한다”며 “제주 지역 주민들은 고물가 부담을 덜어 삶의 질을 높이고, 지방 농축산어가와 중소 식품제조업체는 성장의 기반을 마련하게 되는 ‘윈윈’으로 이어질 것이다”고 말했다.
