브레이크뉴스 문홍철 기자= 정의선 현대자동차그룹 회장이 미국 출장 중에 현지의 KIA 타이거즈 스프링캠프를 깜짝 방문했다.
정 회장은 16일(현지시간) 미국 캘리포니아 어바인 인근에 위치한 더 클럽하우스 베이스볼(The Clubhouse Baseball)을 찾아 훈련 중인 KIA 타이거즈 선수들과 코칭 스태프를 격려했다.
정 회장은 그룹 주요 경영진과 설립 20주년을 맞은 모하비주행시험장(California Proving Ground) 방문 및 미 프로골프협회(PGA) 투어 ‘2025 제네시스 인비테이셔널’ 참관 등을 위해 미국을 방문했다.

정 회장은 선수들과 만나 “지난 시즌 좋은 성적을 거둔 것을 진심으로 축하하고, 현대차그룹 구성원에게 큰 기쁨이 됐다”며 “지난해 11월 축승연에 폭설 때문에 참석을 못했는데, 이렇게 전지훈련장에서 직접 만나게 돼 기쁘다”고 말했다.
이어 “승부도 중요하지만 개인의 건강도 중요하니 선수단과 스태프 모두 컨디션과 몸 관리에 힘써달라”고 당부했다.
정 회장은 선수들과 직접 소통했고, 주장인 나성범 선수가 팀을 대표해 선수들의 사인이 들어간 대형 사인볼을 정의선 회장에게 선물했다.
또한, 정 회장은 “모기업이 자동차 회사인만큼 차량이 어떻게 생산되는지 직접 보는 것도 좋겠다”며 즉석에서 KIA 타이거즈 구성원들을 17일 어바인 내 위치한 기아 미국 판매법인(KUS)과 미국 디자인센터 등 사업장에 초대했으며, 선수단을 위한 식사 자리 마련 및 메뉴 선정까지 꼼꼼히 챙겼다.
