윤석열 대통령이 20일 부인 김건희 여사·조태용 국정원장 간 12·3 비상계엄 선포 전후 문자 메시지를 주고받은 것 관련해 "그 통화 내역이 어떤 건지 사실 좀 궁금하다"고 했다.
이날 오후 서울 종로구 헌법재판소 대심판정에서 열린 탄핵심판 10차 변론에서 윤 대통령은 "(내용을) 알 수 없지만 저와 제 처는 지난해 11월 7일 대국민담화 기자회견 이후 소통 방식을 개선하고 휴대전화를 바꾸겠다 말씀드렸다"며 이렇게 밝혔다.
앞서 김 여사는 지난해 12월 2일 오후 5시 51분께 조 원장에게 두 차례 문자를 보냈고, 조 원장은 3일 오전 9시 49분께 회신한 것으로 전해졌다. 조 원장은 지난 13일 헌재 8차 탄핵심판 증언에서 "자주 있는 일은 아니다"며 해당 사실을 확인했다.
윤 대통령은 "11월 중순 남미 G20(주요 20개국)·APEC(아시아·태평양경제협력체) 출장 직전인가 직후 (휴대전화를) 바꿨다"며 "저는 비화폰을 조 원장과 썼고, 제 아내는 원장의 안보실장 시절 번호를 갖고 있었을지 모르나 비화폰 아닌 개인폰으로 바꾸고 원래 폰이 없었기에 그 통화 내역이 어떤 건지 사실 좀 궁금하다"고 했다.
또 "(홍장원) 1차장 메모는 탄핵 공작이며 국정원장 출장을 착각해 통화로 시작된 사안"이라며 "전화는 격려 차원이었고 방첩사 지원만 얘기했으며 계엄 사무에서 국정원에 맡길 일은 없다"고 했다.
이어 "저 만큼 국정원 잘 아는 사람 없다"먀 "육사 선후배끼리 간첩 잡아들이라는 얘기를 엮어 대통령 체포지시로 만들았다"고 했다.
그러면서 "방첩사 지원은 국정원장에게 늘 하는 얘기로 계엄 지시였다면 국정원장이 무시 못한다"며 "계엄 때 동향파악 시도는 불필요하고 잘못됐다 생각한다"고 했다.
