당진시(시장 오성환)는 자동차세 체납액을 최소화하고 상습 체납을 근절하기 위해 번호판 영치 활동을 적극 추진하고 있다고 18일 밝혔다.
시는 전문 장비를 갖춘 차량을 활용하여 아파트 단지와 공용주차장 등 차량이 밀집한 지역에서 체납 차량을 중점적으로 단속하고 있다.
자동차세를 1회 체납한 차량에 대해서는 번호판 영치 예고를 통해 자진 납부를 유도하며, 2회 이상 체납한 차량은 즉시 번호판 영치를 실시한다.
특히, 자동차세를 3회 이상 체납한 타 시도 등록 차량도 영치 대상에 포함된다.
이와 함께, 생계유지를 위한 체납 자동차에 대해서는 번호판 영치를 유예하고 납부 안내 위주의 단속을 병행할 계획이다.
시 관계자는 “조세 정의를 실현하고 체납자의 경각심을 높이기 위해 체납 차량의 번호판 영치에 최선을 다할 것”이라며 “번호판 영치로 인한 불이익을 받지 않도록 자발적으로 납부해주기를 바란다”고 강조했다.
당진시는 이러한 체납 차량 번호판 영치를 연중 상시 실시하며, 대포차로 추정되는 체납 차량에 대해서는 인도명령과 강제 견인 조치를 취한 후 공매처분을 진행하고 있다.
