8일 윤석열 전 대통령 파면에 따른 제21대 차기 대통령 선거일이 오는 6월 3일로 확정됐다.
한덕수 대통령 권한대행 국무총리는 이날 오전 서울 종로구 정부서울청사에서 열린 국무회의에서 "정부는 선거관리위원회 등 관계기관과 협의해 선거 관리에 필요한 법정 사무의 원활한 수행·각 정당 준비기간 등을 고려해 오는 6월 3일을 대한민국 제21대 대통령 선거일로 지정코자 한다"고 밝혔다.
그러면서 "국민들께서 소중한 투표권을 원활하게 행사하실 수 있도록 선거 당일을 임시공휴일로 지정한다"며 행정안전부·선거관리위원회에 선거 준비 만전을 당부했다.

더불어 "국무위원들은 소관 분야에 대한 전권을 갖고 어느 때보다도 냉철하게 판단하고 책임 있게 행동해 주시길 바란다"며 "모든 공직자도 대통령 궐위란 엄중한 상황을 맞아 정치적 중립을 확고히 유지하며 맡은 바 소임을 다해 주시길 당부드린다"고 했다.
한 권한대행은 "정치권의 대승적 협력도 간곡히 요청한다"며 "하루빨리 정부·국회가 머리를 맞대고 추경 편성·규제 혁신 등 민생·기업 활동에 숨통을 틔워줄 수 있는 방안들을 신속 모색해야 한다"고 밝혔다.
