브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 권동욱 국민의힘 대변인은 11일 "진성준 민주당 정책위의장이 한덕수 권한대행과 트럼프 미 대통령 간의 통화에 대해 '미국의 요구를 다 들어줘 버린 것 아니냐는 의심이 제기되고 있다'고 발언한 것은 매우 부적절하다"고 비판했다.
권 대변인은 이날 논평을 통해 "이 말대로라면 첫 통화에서 미 대통령이 이러저러한 요구를 했고, 우리 측 한 권한대행이 이를 수용했다는 이야기인데, 세상 어느 나라 행정 수반이 첫 통화에서 그렇게 협상하느냐"고 반문하며 "향후 본격적인 진행에 앞서 협상력을 높이기 위해, 또 상대의 의도와 심중을 파악하기 위해 원론적인 수준의 입장 표명과 조심스러운 타진에 그치는 것이 상식"이라고 강조했다.
이어 그는 "그럼에도 불구하고 공당의 정책위의장이 본격적인 협상이 시작되기도 전에 한국의 협상 대표를 격하시키고 깎아내리는 모습을 보이고 있다"며 "심지어 우리 국민에게도 불신부터 심어주고 있다"고 지적했다.
권 대변인은 "민주당은 그동안 외교와 관련해 '북한, 중국, 러시아를 적대시', '중국에 셰셰' 등 이념적이고 편향된 태도로 대내외의 비판과 우려를 자초해왔다"고 비판했다.
또한 "트럼프 2기 출범으로 통상·경제전쟁이 예고된 상황에서, 민주당은 정치적 이유와 자신들의 요구를 들어주지 않는다는 이유로 한 권한대행을 탄핵시켜 국가 사령탑을 공백 상태로 만들기까지 했다"며 "현재도 최상목 경제부총리 탄핵소추안이 국회에 계류 중인 가운데, 민주당 초선 의원들은 한덕수, 최상목 두 경제사령탑에 대한 탄핵 촉구 성명서를 발표했다"고 덧붙였다.
그는 "정부의 발목을 잡는 것이 민주당의 '본업'이라 해도, 지금은 엄중한 시국"이라며 "아무리 눈엣가시라 해도 자중하고, 오히려 협상력을 높여주는 것이 공당의 역할이자 책임"이라고 밝혔다.
마지막으로 권 대변인은 "민주당은 당장 눈앞에 국익이 걸린 사안마저도 당파적 시각으로 접근해 국가의 이익을 해치고 있다"며 "말로는 '민생'을 외치면서도 실제로는 국내 산업 생태계와 수출기업의 존폐가 걸린 협상에 어깃장부터 놓고 있으며, 이런 민주당에게 통상과 외교를 맡긴다면 이는 외교적 재앙을 넘어 국내 산업 위기까지 심화시킬 것"이라고 경고했다.
그러면서 "통상과 외교는 더 이상 민주당에게 맡길 수 없으며, 우리 국민들 역시 그렇게 생각하실 것"이라고 덧붙였다.
