세종시가 동북아 3국 간 협력의 상징인 한일중 3국 협력사무국(TCS)과 손잡고 국제무대에서의 외교 네트워크를 넓힌다.
이를 위해 세종시는 14일 오후 시청 세종실에서 TCS와 민간 교류 및 청년 외교 인재 양성을 위한 포괄적 업무협약(MOU)을 체결했다고 밝혔다.
한일중 3국 협력사무국은 한국, 일본, 중국 3국 정부가 공동 설립한 정부 간 국제기구로, 동북아시아의 평화와 공동 번영을 위한 다양한 협력 사업을 추진하고 있다. 이번 협약은 TCS가 설립된 이후 지방정부와 체결한 첫 포괄적 협약으로, 세종시가 지방외교의 새 모델을 제시한 셈이다.
이번 협약을 통해 양측은 2026년 ‘청년대사 프로그램’ 세종 공동 개최 ,TCS 도시 간 교류 프로그램과 연계한 협력사업 ,한글문화 등 K-문화 확산 사업 등을 함께 추진하게 된다.
특히 청년대사 프로그램은 한중일 3국의 미래 외교를 이끌 인재들이 세종에 모여 국제 협력과 정책 제안을 논의하는 장이 될 것으로 기대를 모은다. 세종시는 이를 계기로 글로벌 청년 교류의 중심지로 발돋움한다는 목표다.
이 프로그램에 참가한 청년들은 전·현직 대사, 외교관, 국제기구 관계자들과 직접 소통하며 국제무대에 대한 감각을 익히고, 동북아 지역의 공동 발전을 위한 정책을 제안하는 등 실제적인 외교 역량을 키우게 된다.
최민호 세종시장은 “이번 협약은 세종시가 국제 청년 외교의 거점 도시로 도약하는 신호탄”이라며 “청년들이 세계를 향해 도전할 수 있도록 다양한 국제 협력 프로그램을 지속적으로 마련하겠다”고 밝혔다.
이희섭 TCS 사무총장은 “세종시와의 협력은 동북아 미래세대를 잇는 국제 교류의 새로운 장이 될 것”이라며 “청소년 수학여행 교류를 포함해 내년 청년대사 프로그램이 세종에서 개최되는 것이 매우 의미 깊다”고 말했다.
