(브레이크뉴스인천 박상도 기자) 중부지방해양경찰청이 20일, 퇴직공무원의 전문성과 경험을 활용한 ‘영세선박 해양오염 예방 컨설팅 사업’을 더욱 활성화하겠다고 지난 밝혔다.
중부해경청에 따르면, 이 사업은 해양오염사고 취약 대상인 영세선박(어선, 예인선, 부선 등)을 중심으로 퇴직 해양경찰관이 직접 현장을 방문해 안전관리 및 오염 예방 컨설팅을 실시하는 프로그램이다.
중부해경청은 매년 관내 약 480여 척의 영세선박을 대상으로 꾸준히 컨설팅을 진행하고 있다.
실제로 최근 5년간 관내 해양오염사고 223건 중 65%인 146건이 영세선박에서 발생한 만큼, 이번 사업 활성화는 해양오염사고 예방에 큰 역할을 할 것으로 기대된다.
올해는 특히 어선 화재 및 안전사고로 인한 2차 해양오염을 막기 위한 컨설팅을 강화할 방침이다.
이를 위해, 선박 내 콘센트나 멀티탭 등에 부착할 수 있는 '소화스티커'를 배부해 초기 화재 대응력을 높이고, 해양오염 사고를 사전에 차단하는 서비스를 제공할 예정이다.
중부해경청 관계자는 “현장의 빈틈을 메우는 예방 중심 활동을 통해 깨끗하고 안전한 해양환경 조성에 최선을 다하겠다”고 말했다.
한편, 소화스티커는 콘센트/멀티탭 등에 부착하여 화재시 소화약제가 방출되어 초기 화재 진압한다.
