인천해경에 따르면, A씨는 지난 4월 24일 오후 2시 42분께 인천 강화도 남방 해상에서 허가를 받지 않고 불법으로 실뱀장어를 조업한 혐의를 받고 있다.
또한, B씨는 지난 4월 15일 오후 3시 20분께 경기 김포시 대곶면 항산도 인근 해상에서 허가구역을 벗어나 실뱀장어를 조업한 혐의를 받고 있다.
수산업법상 무허가 실뱀장어 조업 시 3년 이하의 징역 또는 3천만원 이하의 벌금에, 조업구역 위반 시 1년 이하의 징역 또는 1천만 원 이하의 벌금에 처해질 수 있다.
인천해경은 실뱀장어 어족자원 보호뿐만 아니라 불법 조업 근절을 위해 형사기동정을 중심으로 취약 시간대 해상 순찰을 강화하고 불법 포획 행위를 지속적으로 단속할 방침이다.
인천해경 관계자는 “매년 2월에서 5월 사이 뱀장어 치어인 실뱀장어가 서해 바다로 회유함에 따라 이 시기 불법 조업이 증가한다”며 “단속 사각지대가 발생하지 않도록 순찰을 강화하는 등 해양질서 확립에 최선을 다하겠다”고 말했다.
